January 4 - Daily Report

Damage Only RTC - Around 4:25pm on Monday, Police attended a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of Somerset Road and Scaur Hill Drive in Sandys. It appears that the car was traveling along Somerset Road when the driver, a 39 year old Sandys man, collided with a wall. The driver was not injured. The car received moderate damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

January 3 - Daily Report

Robbery - Police responded to a report of a robbery that took place a few minutes after 2am on Saturday, January 1st 2011. It appears that a 50 year old Sandys man was returning from a function and he was arriving back at his dwelling on Broome Street in Sandys. As he was exiting his car, two men came out of the bushes and attacked him. The victim states that one of the men brandished what is believed to be a firearm and made demands of money.

Injury RTC – Police Vehicle

Police were on mobile patrol around 3:35am Saturday January 1st 2011, when they attempted to stop a man riding a motorcycle with a  passenger, traveling at a high rate of speed on Angle Street. Officers followed the vehicle, however the cyclist continued at a high rate of speed, failing to come to a stop at the stop sign at the junction of Court and Angle Streets.  This resulted in the motorcycle colliding with another police vehicle that was traveling south on Court Street.

Injury RTC – Around 9:40am on Thursday, Police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Mangrove Bay Road and East Shore Road in Sandys involving a truck and an auxiliary cycle. It appears that both vehicles were traveling along Mangrove Bay Road when they collided. The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 34 year old Sandys man, complained of pain in the torso area and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the truck, a 67 year old Hamilton parish man, was not injured. Both vehicles were damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Policing for New Year's Eve

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Martin Weekes & Superintendent James Howard - This year we are pleased to report that the Christmas period passed with few incidents of violence and we wish to thank the public for their support. The Bermuda Police Service, assisted by the Bermuda Reserve Police, deployed extra crime prevention patrols throughout the long holiday weekend and whilst there were some incidents of public order they were swiftly and robustly dealt with. Significant attention was also focused on Bermuda's roads during the Christmas weekend to make Bermuda safer. A total of eleven persons were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving during the period.

One Man Crime Spree

Kevin Davis, was taken to court yesterday for a number of burglaries that have been happening around the island for the past few weeks. As a result he was convicted of 5 counts of burglary with 6 counts taken into consideration (TIC).

What does 'offences taken into consideration' mean?

The court may take other offences into consideration when they pass sentence.

Sudden Death of Fred Smith - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 61 year old Fred Smith. Mr. Smith’s lifeless body was initially found by family members around 12:55pm on Sunday at a Devon Point Lane, Devonshire residence and Police officers subsequently attended the scene. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.
