January 13 - Daily Report

Burglary - Around 5:15pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Watlington Lane North, Devonshire residence. It appears that sometime between 8am and 5pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash, electronic items & jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Promotions to Inspector & Sergeant

At 4:30pm on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 a promotion ceremony took place at the Police Recreation Club, Police Headquarters, Prospect Devonshire where 12 officers were promoted - five to the rank of Inspector and seven to the rank of Sergeant. In attendance were the Minister of National Security Lt. Col. David Burch, Commissioner Michael DeSilva, Deputy Commissioner Mike Jackman, Assistant Commissioner Paul Wright and Assistant Commissioner David Mirfield as well as the colleagues, family & friends of the officers being promoted. The Commissioner of Police is pleased to announce the following officers’ promotion to the rank of Inspector [photo] effective Tuesday, January 11, 2011:

Burglary - Around 11:15pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Mount Hill, Pembroke residence. It appears that an intruder gained entry into the home and was confronted by one of the occupants before making good his escape empty handed. No one was injured. The suspect, a 42 year old Pembroke man, was subsequently arrested in connection with this incident. Inquiries are underway.

Firearm, Drugs Seized & Man Arrested

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the arrest of a 28 year old male from Pembroke Parish for Firearms & Drugs offences.

Police firearms officers executed a search warrant at a Pembroke residence during the evening of Saturday 8th January, 2011. The investigation is being led by the Serious Crime & Drugs Units of the Bermuda Police Service.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Update: Sudden Death - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 19 year old Kevin Faries of Warwick. The lifeless body of Mr. Faries was found outside a Rockland Crescent, Warwick residence around 11:15am on Sunday. An autopsy is anticipated in due course and inquiries into this incident are ongoing. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of the deceased. Police are looking at all possible lines of inquiry and pending the autopsy, no further comment can be made at this time. Anyone who may have any information regarding the death of Kevin Faries is encouraged to contact PC Donville Yarde on 295-0011.

Sudden Death

Police responded to an incident that took place today at 11:13am in Warwick. Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a 19 year old man was found in a non responsive state outside a residence on Rockland Crescent in Warwick. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. Active inquiries into this incident are underway and foul play has not been ruled out.
