2010 Year End Crime Statistics

In 2010 there were 7 people killed and 29 people injured though the use of firearms. This represents a significant increase over 2009 which recorded 4 and 13 respectively. Across all other areas, crime is at its lowest point in the last decade. Significant resources and several strategies were deployed in 2010 to target gun, gang and drug offences as the primary objectives for the police and the community.

January 25 - Weekly Review

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Burglary - Around 3:35am on Monday, Police responded to a report of a burglary at a Robin Hood Drive, Pembroke residence. It appears that around 3:25am that day an unknown culprit gained entry into the apartment brandishing a bladed article and accosted one of the occupants, a 39 year old Pembroke man. The other occupant, a 29 year old Pembroke man, managed to escape unharmed. The intruder fled the scene with a quantity of cash. The victim sustained facial injuries but declined medical treatment. The suspect is described as a tall dark skinned male of slim build, wearing a long dark coloured hooded jacket and long dark coloured pants. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

January 23 - Weekend Report

Burglary - Around 7pm on Friday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Harbour Road, Paget residence. It appears that sometime between 2:50pm and 6:45pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied; however apparently nothing was taken. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 6:25pm on Friday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Lighthouse Lane, Southampton residence. It appears that sometime between 2:45pm and 6:10pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Vessels Intercepted, Suspected Drugs Seized & Arrests Made

Police officers have intercepted two vessels this morning during a marine operation, one being the Carefree IV. As a result five individuals have been arrested, including the two man crew of the Carefree IV and a significant quantity of suspected drugs has been seized. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Injury RTC/Impaired Driving - Around 9pm on Thursday, Police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of North Shore Road and Loyal Hill Road in Devonshire involving a car and a motorcycle. It appears that both vehicles were traveling along North Shore Road when they collided at the junction. The rider of the motorcycle, a 33 year old Devonshire woman, was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. She was subsequently released.

Recruit Foundation Course #73 Charity Fundraiser

The student officers of Recruit Foundation Course #73 will be conducting two charity car washes on Saturday 22nd January and Saturday 29th January 2011 respectively.

On Saturday, 22nd January a car wash will be held at the Paget Shell Service Station located at the junction of Middle Road & Valley Road in Paget, between 9am and 2pm.

On Saturday, 29th January a car wash will be held at the Crawl Hill Esso Service Station located at the junction of North Shore Road & Radnor Road in Hamilton parish, between 9am and 2pm.
