The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, January 17th – Monday, January 24th 2011 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 15
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 34
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 9
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 6
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 2, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 1, Warwick = 1 and Sandys parish = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 6 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered.

Burglary

Around 6:40pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Fairway Drive, Warwick residence. It appears that sometime between 7:30am and 6:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a 42” Panasonic flat screen TV, a Play Station 3 video game system including five games, a HP laptop computer and a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries. All residents should make sure windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended, even for short periods of time. Also, before retiring to bed at night all windows & doors should be locked with any valuables secured out of sight. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals in their neighbourhoods to Police on 295-0011.
