Saturday Weather Advisory

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) is advising that the Island can expect to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions tomorrow (Saturday). 

According to the BWS it is anticipated that during the late afternoon hours of Saturday storm force winds are expected to be between 40-50 knots, with hurricane force gusts of up to 65 knots.

February 12 - Daily Report

Boat Fire - Around 10:30am on Thursday, Police received a report of a boat on fire at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort dock. Officers attended the scene a short time later. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene and eventually extinguished the blaze. The vessel was completely destroyed; however no one was injured. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

UPDATE: Causeway Bridge is re-opened

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is advising the public that the Causeway Bridge will open at 7.30 p.m.

However, in the overwhelming interest of public safety, the Chairman of the EMO and Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, Sen. the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch is "strongly urging" motorists on two wheeled vehicles, such as cycles, not to traverse the bridge, as winds in the area remain high.

Causeway Bridge Remains Closed

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is advising the public that based on the latest weather update from the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) the Causeway Bridge will remain closed until 8.00 p.m.

This is due to the fact that winds in the area continue to be extremely high. There have been sustained wind speeds of 45-55 knots and it is expected that there will be hurricane force gusts over the next several hours.

Burglary - Around 1:05am today, Police received a report of a burglary at Smatt’s Livery Cycle Ltd. in Southampton (Fairmont Southampton Resort). It appears that sometime Wednesday evening an unknown culprit gained entry into the premises. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 12:30pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a burglary at an Anchorage Lane, St. George’s residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 7:40am and 8:10am that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home. The culprit stole a black HP laptop computer. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

UPDATE: Severe Weather

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Causeway will remain closed until 4.00 p.m. - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) moved to update the public on the latest weather related developments.

According to the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) the Island remains under a Storm Warning, which will remain in effect until late this afternoon.

As a result, the Island will continue to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions resulting in sustained 45-55 knots winds with gusts of around 70 knots.

Update: Public Transportation

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Ferry Service Suspended, Bus Service running normally - The Department of Marine and Ports has advised that due to the severe weather conditions, ferry service has been suspended until further notice. However, the Department of Public Transportation has advised that all bus service has resumed its normal schedule.
