Injury RTC

Around 9:10am on Thursday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Palmetto Road in Pembroke involving a truck, a van and a marked Police car. It appears that the van and the Police vehicle were traveling east on Palmetto Road, with the van in front of the Police car. The truck was traveling in the opposite direction. Apparently the driver of the van, a 50 year old Pembroke man, lost control and as a result all three vehicles collided. The driver of the Police car complained of chest and shoulder pain as well as glass to his eyes. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The other officer who was the front seat passenger in the Police vehicle was not injured. The driver of the van was not injured; nor was the driver of the truck, a 50 year old Hamilton parish man. The Police car received extensive damage to its right side while the van and the truck received front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service would like the general public and all taxi drivers to be mindful of the following recommendations. On reaching their destination, passengers exiting a taxi (where possible) should do so in a well lit area. Taxi drivers are encouraged to exercise sound judgment in where they let off passengers (where practical) and passengers are also encouraged to request to be dropped off in an area with adequate lighting. These recommendations are to promote the safety of all taxi drivers and taxi passengers, which is paramount.
