UPDATE: Severe Weather

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Causeway will remain closed until 4.00 p.m. - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) moved to update the public on the latest weather related developments.

According to the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) the Island remains under a Storm Warning, which will remain in effect until late this afternoon.

As a result, the Island will continue to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions resulting in sustained 45-55 knots winds with gusts of around 70 knots.

At this stage and in the overwhelming interest of public safety, the closure of the Causeway Bridge has been extended to 4.00 p.m. A structural assessment of the Causeway will be made around 2.30 p.m., prior to its reopening.

Meanwhile, it continues to be closely monitored by the Bermuda Police Service and the Ministry of Works and Engineering.

Government services continue to operate as normal today, however as a result of the weather conditions ferry service has been suspended until further notice. Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, Sen. the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch continues to encourage all motorists to exercise caution when moving about the Island today. 

Residents will continue to be updated regarding any further developments, particularly as it relates to the reopening of the Causeway Bridge.
