Town Hall Meeting for Eastern Parishes Well Attended

Last night (Tuesday, March 16th) at the Francis Patton Primary School, the Eastern Area Command hosted a town hall meeting. The purpose of the town hall meeting was to introduce the Community Action Team (CAT) officers to their community formally and to allow public feedback and discussion by residents on policing initiatives while emphasizing Police working in partnership with the community as outlined in the Policing Plan 2010.

March 17 - Daily Report

Injury RTC - Around 2:15pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Point Finger Road in Paget involving a car and a motorcycle. It appears that the car and the motorcycle were traveling in opposite directions when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 36 year old man, complained of pain to his left hand and left foot. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car, a 72 year old Warwick woman, was not injured. The vehicles received relatively minor damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Injury RTC - Around 10:45pm on Sunday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Paget in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling east on South Road when the rider, a 37 year old Smith’s parish man, lost control and collided with a wall. The Smith’s parish man was found lying in the road by a passing motorist. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of a head injury (suspected concussion). His injury is not believed to be life threatening. The motorcycle received minor damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Sudden Deaths of Peter Mitchell & Shawn Woolridge

The autopsy of 55 year old Peter Mitchell is now complete and the forensic pathologist has determined that his death is not suspicious. Therefore there is no further Police action required. The Bermuda Police Service again extends sincere condolences to the Mitchell family on the untimely passing of their loved one.

March 14 - Weekend Report

Damage Only RTC - At 3:30am on Saturday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on Harrington SoundHarrington Sound Road in Smith’s parish near Harrington Sound Post Office. It appears that a car was traveling west on Road when the driver, a 24 year old Devonshire man, lost control. As a result the vehicle collided with an embankment causing it to overturn. The driver was not injured; however the car was extensively damaged.

Shooting at Bermuda College

Around 1:40am today, Police received a report of gunshots at Bermuda College in Paget. It appears that during a function at the premises, a physical altercation took place between several young men. The victim, a 16 year old young man from Warwick, received a gunshot wound to the upper body and an injury to his head (not gunshot related). The teenager subsequently attended KEMH and received treatment for his injuries. He was later released. A car on the premises was also damaged; it is believed the two incidents may be linked. An investigation into these matters is underway.
