From the Bermuda Road Safety Council, Road Safety Officer David Minors - On behalf of our Chairman, Dr. Chris Johnson, The Bermuda Road Safety Council, would like to extend the warmest of greetings to the people of Bermuda on the pending celebration of our Heritage Day festivities. Today, we are here to encourage and remind our community that in spite of all the celebrations that are going on, please adhere to the rules of the road, especially during this holiday.

Marine Advisory

With the upcoming Bermuda Day holiday weekend it is anticipated there will be a large increase in marine traffic on the water. Therefore the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit would like to send out an advisory to boaters and swimmers, reminding them of the following safety tips:

May 19 - Daily Report

Damage Only RTC - At 8:15am today, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision on Middle Road in Paget near the junction with Scarrington Hill involving two cars and a van. It appears that all three vehicles were traveling east on Middle Road with the two cars in front of the van when the collision occurred. There were no reported injuries to the drivers of the vehicles; a 29 year old Pembroke man (van driver), an 83 year old Sandys parish man and a 40 year old Hamilton parish woman respectively. The van received moderate front end damage, while one of the cars was extensively damaged (front & rear).

Police & DNDC Re-Affirm Partnership

The Department for National Drug Control (DNDC) and the Bermuda Police Service today re-affirmed their commitment towards cooperation for drug abuse control within the context of the Strategic Framework of the National Drug Control Policies and Master Plan (2007-2011). To this end the DNDC and Bermuda Police Service have agreed to take action in order to provide increased technical management and coordination opportunities, training opportunities and community actions and activities to support, integrate and coordinate on-going dissemination of drug information as well as to facilitate local training of Officers in the fundamental concepts of drug addiction.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Damage Only RTC - Around 6:10pm on Sunday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on Harrington Sound Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Glendon Drive. It appears that a car was traveling west on Harrington Sound Road when the driver, a 28 year old St. George’s man, lost control and collided with a wall. The St. George’s man was not injured; however the car received front end damage. The wall was also damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
