Reported Explosion at Ariel Sands Residence

Around 6:25pm on Wednesday, October 16th police officers as well as Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel attended a reported explosion at an Ariel Sands, Devonshire residence. There were no reported injuries; however apparently there was significant damage to the residence involved. In addition, surrounding residences had windows shattered as a result. Inquiries into the cause of this explosion are ongoing.

Reported Serious Collision on Harbour Road

Around 5:30pm on Friday, October 11th police and first responders attended a reported serious collision at the junction of Harbour Road and Morgan Road in Warwick. It appears that a motorcycle was being ridden along Harbour Road and a rental cycle was exiting Morgan Road when the vehicles collided. Initial indications are that the riders, believed to be a 33 year old Southampton man and a 52 year old male contract worker, were seriously injured. Both victims were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

Police Week 2013: Commissioner for a Day Winners

On Wednesday, October 9th as part of Police Week 2013, nine students from various schools were ‘Commissioners for a Day’ after submitting winning entries to the annual creative artwork and short essay competition held by the Bermuda Police Service. The competition was open to all public and private primary, middle and senior schools across the island. This year’s Police Week theme is ‘Building Community Confidence Through Engagement.’

Reported Serious Collision Tonight

Police responded to a report of a road traffic collision that took place on South Road in Paget just 200 meters west of The Coral Beach entrance at 8:20pm (Tuesday evening). It appears that two cycles were traveling west on South Road when it appears that one of the cycles hit a livery cycle traveling in the other direction, resulting in one of the riders losing control and crashing his cycle. The man was taken to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Female Police Officer Assaulted & Injured

Inspector David Geraghty - Around 10:30am on Tuesday, October 8th police officers responded to an incident on Anchorage View Road in St. George’s. On arrival officers spoke to a 56 year old male in relation to the incident. The male became belligerent and violent, assaulting one of the officers before making good his escape. The female officer is currently being treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for injuries that she received to her head as a result, which are not believed to be life threatening.

The Bermuda Police Service will host a week of police as well as community events to celebrate Police Week 2013, starting on Saturday, October 5th and finishing on Saturday, October 12th.

Promotions to Inspector & Sergeant

At a 4:30pm ceremony held at Police Headquarters in Prospect Devonshire on Wednesday, September 25th eleven officers were promoted, five to the rank of Sergeant and six to the rank of Inspector.
Dignitaries in attendance at the promotion ceremony were His Excellency the Governor, Mr. George Fergusson, Minister of Public Safety, the Hon. Michael H. Dunkley, Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva, Deputy Commissioner Mike Jackman, Assistant Commissioner Paul Wright and Assistant Commissioner Antoine Daniels.
In addition, family, friends and colleagues of the officers being promoted filled the Police Recreation Club hall to show their support.

Sudden Death of 21 Month Old Child

Around 7:30pm on Wednesday, September 25th police officers responded to an incident that occurred at a Mount Wyndham Drive, Hamilton parish residence.

It appears that a 21 month old child came into contact with a taxi. As a result, that child was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Joint Police & Corrections Team Apprehend Fugitive Ascento

Around 7:55am on Wednesday, September 25th a joint Bermuda Police Service and Department of Corrections team executed a search warrant at a Spring Hill, Warwick residence regarding fugitive Howard Ascento.

Mr. Ascento was located at the premises and subsequently taken into custody. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Two Arrests Made For Harbouring A Fugitive

At 2:45pm on Monday, September 23rd the joint team of officers from the Department of Corrections and Bermuda Police Service were on patrol looking for fugitive Howard Ascento in the area of Upland Lane in Devonshire. As police approached a residence, the suspect made good his escape in the surrounding area.

As a result, a 26 year old male and a 28 year old female were arrested for harbouring a fugitive and a court appearance is expected in the near future.
