Policing for 2015 Heritage Day Holiday Weekend

Superintendent Darrin Simons – Good Morning. The Bermuda Police Service wishes to take this opportunity to advise the public on a number of matters to ensure a peaceful and safe time during this year’s Heritage Day holiday weekend.

The purpose of this press conference is to share with the community the general policing plan. As you are aware, this weekend marks the unofficial start to summertime activities on the water. Therefore, along with the Bermuda Reserve Police, there will be a visible law enforcement presence on our waterways.

Sudden Death of American Visitor Swimming Near Watford Bridge

Around 3:45pm Wednesday, May 20th first responders were dispatched to report of a 52 year old American visitor encountering difficulty while swimming in the waters near Watford Bridge in Sandys parish.

It appears that the 52 year old, believed to be from California, was initially aboard the local pleasure boat ‘Aristocat’.

Sudden Death at Paradise Lakes

Marine police attended a report of a serious incident that took place a few minutes after 6pm on Long Island, commonly referred to as Paradise Lakes.

It appears that five individuals were on a 15 foot open boat when a 25 year old Dominican guest worker ran into difficulty whilst he was swimming.

He was taken out of the water by two individuals who were with him and marine police then took the man to Darrell’s Wharf where he was met by the ambulance.

37 West Pembroke Primary Students Graduate G.R.E.A.T. Programme

This morning (Friday, May 15th) 37 West Pembroke Primary School students officially graduated from the G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Training) programme at their school and received certificates commemorating the accomplishment from Senator and Junior National Security Minister Jeffrey Baron as well as Constables Marlon Cann and Adrian Haynes, representing the Bermuda Police Service Community Action Team.

On Friday, May 8th 2015 seven West Pembroke Primary School students – Te’syay-Machle’, Adrian Trott, Jayden Williams-Woodley, Zanaeyah Pratt, JehZiyh Rawlins, Alaiyah Hayward and Tyger Smith – stood in front of their morning assembly and read short essays explaining what they learned from participating in the G.R.E.A.T. Tackling Injury & Death On Our Roads – Awareness & Enforcement

Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro - As many of you will no doubt be aware, four Bermudians tragically lost their lives on Bermuda’s roads already this year (2015).

In the years 2013-2014, 25 Bermudians lost their lives – meaning that in the preceding 29 months, 29 persons have lost their lives by way of road traffic collisions. This is an average of one death a month.

Man Injured in Apparent Stabbing Outside Woody's Sports Bar

Around 6pm on Saturday, May 2nd first responders were dispatched to a reported disturbance at Woody's Sports Bar in Sandys parish.

It appears that an altercation took place outside the premises where one man was stabbed.

The victim, believed to be a 19 year old male, has been taken to hospital for treatment; however the extent of his injury is unknown at this time.

1 Year On, Appeal Continues for Missing Canadian Visitor William Grange

Detective Inspector Mark Clarke – Saturday, May 2nd 2015 marks one year since Canadian visitor Mr. William ‘Bill’ Grange went missing from the Cambridge Beaches Resort in Sandys parish.

As you will recall Mr. Grange, a 67 year old white male from Ontario, was reported missing around 10pm Friday, May 2nd 2014.

Investigation Into Year’s Fourth Road Fatality Continues

At approximately 4:05 Saturday morning first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place at the junction of Middle Road and Cobbs Hill Road in Warwick.
