Sixth Road Fatality for 2015

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 81 year old Leon Smith who passed away at 1:30pm today (Tuesday) and the Bermuda Police Service extends our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. 

Details are 81 year old Leon Smith was travelling on his motorcycle when he collided with a truck at the junction of Cavendish Road and Lane Hill in Pembroke around 1:50pm Monday June 1st. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and remained in the ICU until his untimely passing.

Reported Stolen Chevrolet Spark Located

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating a black Chevrolet Spark bearing license plate number 30382 that was removed from outside a White Sands Road, Paget residence sometime between 10pm Friday, June 12th and 5am Saturday, June 13th.

The vehicle was later found around 10am today, Monday June 15th at the Botanical Gardens and initially impounded by police as inquiries regarding this matter continue.

Reported Stabbing

At a few minutes after 7pm, police responded to a report of an incident that took place on Church Street in the area of City Hall. It appears that two males got into an altercation resulting in one of those males brandishing a bladed article and stabbing a 54 year old man. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Reported Stolen Vehicles Overnight

In apparently separate incidents, two vehicles were reported stolen overnight.

In Paget, it appears that a black Chevrolet Spark bearing license plate number 30382 was removed from outside a White Sands Road residence sometime between 10pm Friday, June 12th and 5am Saturday, June 13th.

Reported Serious Collision in Sandys Parish

Around 7:55am on Saturday, June 13th first responders were dispatched to a reported serious collision on Malabar Road in Sandys parish just west of Watford Bridge.

It appears that a motorcycle being ridden out of Dockyard collided with the curb. The injured male rider was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment; however at this time the extent of his injuries is unknown.

Policing for National Heroes’ Day Holiday Weekend

Chief Inspector Calvin Smith – This year the National Heroes’ Day holiday weekend celebration will feature some new and exciting additions to the calendar of activities, with approximately 18 different events across the Island over the long weekend.

These events will be held island-wide from Dockyard to St. George’s over a four day period starting tomorrow.

St. George's Butterfield Bank Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that a 39 year old St. George’s man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery that took place today at Butterfield Bank in St. George's and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police are still appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to contact police on 295-0011.

Reported Armed Robbery at Butterfield Bank in St. George's

Around 12:05pm on Tuesday, June 9th police officers responded to a reported robbery in progress at the Butterfield Bank branch in St. George's.

It appears that the suspect, described as a black male, approximately 5'10" tall of slim build wearing a red hooded top, black pants and white gloves, entered the bank brandishing what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money.

He then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Fifth Road Fatality for 2015: Troy Hewey

On Saturday, May 23rd at 10:55pm 50 year old Troy Hewey died as a result of injuries received in the road traffic collision that took place at 8am on Friday on Middle Road in Southampton.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and an investigation into the death of Mr. Hewey is underway. Police would like to speak with anyone who saw the collision and encourage any witnesses to please contact police on 295-0011.
