Death of Job Tucker

Chief Inspector Na’imah Astwood - On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service I would first like to express our condolences to the family and friends of Job Solomon Tucker. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during these very trying times.

As a result of the untimely death of Mr. Tucker, The Bermuda Police Service has launched a detailed investigation which is being spear headed by the Serious Crime Unit.

BPS Signs MOU With The Duke Of Edinburgh’s International Award Bermuda

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE) have signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) to offer the Award programme as a personal and professional development resource for the Bermuda Police Cadet Programme, which serves young people between the ages of 16 - 21. The BPS programme supports the academic attainment of each police cadet and grooms them for a successful policing career in service to the community.

Cash Taken in Reported Armed Robbery

Detectives are investigating a report of robbery that occurred at about 7:25am on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Khyber Pass. At the time, the male complainant was riding his motorcycle east along the said road when two males on another motorcycle rode alongside and brandished what appeared to be a firearm and a machete. The suspects were riding a red Honda Airblade style bike. The complainant’s motorcycle was taken from him along with a large quantity of cash from a local business.

Frequency of Reported Stolen Vehicles On The Increase

Inspector Robert Cardwell, Officer Responsible for the Roads Policing Unit - The frequency of reports of stolen vehicles being received by the Bermuda Police Service is on the increase. The offence committed is Taken Without the Owner’s Consent or T.W.O.C.

Stolen vehicle trends when compared annually show that there is a higher rate of vehicle theft over the summer months. There have been 295 such theft reports for 2015 of which only 30 of the vehicles have been recovered. The majority of vehicle thefts are motorcycles.

BPS Team Win Five Medals at 2015 World Police & Fire Games

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) was well represented by a contingent of twenty two officers at the 2015 World Police and Fire Games, held in Fairfax, Virginia USA from the 26th June until 5th July. The BPS team returned home Monday afternoon (July 6th).

During the week-long event it was estimated that 12,000 professional, public safety athletes from 70 countries competed as individuals and teams in over 60 sports to qualify for more than 1,600 medals.

13 Arrested: Suspected Guns, Drugs & Ammunition Seized

Acting Assistant Commissioner Sean Field-Lament - Early this morning, the Bermuda Police Service conducted multiple search warrants issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act around Beacon Hill Lane and Railway Trail in Sandys and Tele Lane in Warwick Parish. This resulted in the arrest of eight adult males and five adult females. This was as a result of a protracted transnational organized crime investigation involving several overseas partners into drug trafficking and money laundering.

Reported Missing Teenager: Savannah Lewis [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 17 year old Savannah Lewis, who was recently reported missing.

Ms. Lewis is described as light complexioned, 5’4” tall of slim build, with red shoulder length hair and freckles.

She was apparently last seen wearing black jeans and a black and white top around 11pm Saturday, June 27th at her Alexandra Road, Devonshire home.

Reported Serious Collision in Southampton

Around 3:15pm on Monday, June 29th first responders were dispatched to a reported serious collision on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Scenic Heights Pass.

It appears that a car and a rental cycle were traveling in opposite directions when they collided.

Police Officer Discharged From BPS After Incest Conviction

Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva - The Supreme Court yesterday convicted a 37 year old man for incest. The court found that the man had sexually exploited his daughter while in a position of trust.

The Bermuda Police Service treats offences committed against children very seriously and we recently increased the number of investigators trained to deal with those crimes.

Two Pedestrians Injured in Devonshire Collision [Update]

First responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place at 5:39am in the area of South Road and Vickers Bay Road in Devonshire.

It appears that a truck was travelling west on South Road when the driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with two walkers, a 52 year old woman and a 32 year old man.
