Inspector Robert Cardwell – We are just about at the end of the first week of America’s Cup races. The associated excitement to this spectacular event we expect to increase as we approach weeks of elimination races and then finals.

The Bermuda Police Service has put in place significant policing plans not only for the America’s Cup but also Island wide to ensure peace is maintained and ensuring public safety is foremost. In order to be successful we need the full cooperation of the entire Bermuda community.

Fifth Road Fatality for 2017: Michael Skinner

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 41 year old Michael Skinner and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Skinner was seriously injured in a reported single vehicle motorcycle crash around 9:15pm Saturday, May 27th.

It is now understood that the motorcycle he was riding struck a sidewalk along North Shore Road Pembroke near Church Lane, in the vicinity of Grace Methodist Church.

Fifth Road Fatality for 2017 [Updated]

Around 9:15pm Saturday, May 27th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported serious single vehicle motorcycle crash on North Shore Road in Devonshire near the junction with Bandroom Lane.

The injured rider, believed to be a 41 year old Pembroke man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

Policing Plans for 26th & 31st May Court Appearances

The next court appearances for defendants in relation to the offences committed at the House of Assembly on 2nd December 2016, will take place 26th May and 31st May 2017.

All sessions will take place at the Dame Lois Browne Evans building.

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware that appeals are being made for the public to show support for the defendants and therefore, plans are in place to cater to large numbers of people attending on the days mentioned.

Policing Plan for Same Sex Marriage Demonstration

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware that appeals are being made for the public to show support at a planned demonstration at the House of Assembly regarding same sex marriage between 12:30pm and 1:30pm on Thursday 25th May.

A policing plan has been developed to accommodate a peaceful gathering while ensuring the functions in the building are not interrupted.

BPS Detectives Trained and Re-Certified in Anti-Money Laundering & Counter Terrorism Finance Investigations

The Bermuda Police Service has recently completed training for detectives in the Organised & Economic Crime Department (OECD).

Partnering with the U.K. National Crime Agency (NCA) & the Metropolitan Police National Counter Terrorism Command (NTFIU), a total of eleven officers travelled to the United Kingdom to complete training in anti-money laundering, confiscating criminal proceeds, and terrorism finance investigations.

Witness Appeal: Court Street, Elliot Street Confirmed Firearm Incident

The Bermuda Police Service is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a confirmed firearm incident that occurred in the Court Street, Elliot Street Pembroke area.

This shooting occurred approximately 6:04 p.m. on Sunday the 14th May, 2017.

It appears that a 34 year old male was involved in a confrontation with another man and during this confrontation the 34 year old male was shot at, receiving a superficial wound.

Fourth Road Fatality for 2017: Edmund Prentis

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 68 year old Edmund Prentis and extends sincere condolences to his family & friends.

Mr. Prentis, an American visitor said to be from Westhampton Beach, New York was seriously injured around 10am Thursday, May 11th when the rental cycle he was riding collided with a car being driven in the opposite direction on Middle Road in Warwick, near the junction with Burnt House Hill.

Third Road Fatality for 2017: Jokeem Richardson

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Jokeem Richardson and extends sincere condolences to his family & friends.

Mr. Richardson was seriously injured in a collision around 4:15pm Wednesday, May 10th involving the motorcycle he was riding, a car and a tow truck on Blue Hole Hill in Hamilton parish.

Despite life-saving efforts at the scene by EMTs which continued during transport via ambulance, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Third Fatal Collision for 2017

Around 4:15pm on Wednesday, May 10th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported serious collision on Blue Hole Hill in Hamilton parish.

It appears that a car, a motorcycle and a tow truck were involved.

The male motorcyclist was seriously hurt and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
