Joint Press Release: Bermuda Police Service and the Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health has confirmed Mr. Antonio Belvedere met the requirements of the Quarantine (COVID-19) (No. 3) Amendment (No. 2) Order 2021 when he arrived in Bermuda today.
The Ministry confirmed he arrived with an approved Bermuda COVID-19 Travel Authorisation form, fell within an exempted category (unaccompanied minors or medically vulnerable & their caregivers) and will quarantine at home for the mandatory 14 day period.

Operation Vega highlighting the extent of undesirable behaviour, a major cause for concern, on the island’s roads.
In one instance, a driver was clocked at 109 KMH.
Reminding that having a driver’s license is a privilege and not a right, Martin Weekes, Assistant Commissioner of Police provided an update on the progress of Operation Vega thus far:
“With the advent of “Operation Vega” the new Roads Policing Initiative launched one week ago, 219 traffic tickets have been issued and nine stolen bikes recovered.
Of those 219 tickets issued, the biggest numbers (41) were for speeding offences, and for disobeying traffic signs (23).

Appeal Dismissed Regarding Former Police Officer Oswin Pereira

The BPS welcomes today’s finding by the Court of Appeal in rejecting the recent application on behalf of former police officer Oswin Pereira, who was dismissed without notice in January 2020 for matters of gross misconduct.
Police Commissioner Stephen Corbishley today stated:
"This is the second occasion the BPS have dealt with appeals in relation to this matter and I welcome the Court of Appeal’s agreement that the decision by the police conduct panel, chaired by Mr. Alan Dunch, in January 2020, was correct.
There has been much publicity given this case in the media, with the published judgment now articulating in detail the circumstances of this matter.
It is essential the public have trust and confidence in police officers and it is right that the BPS sought to defend the conduct panel’s original decision to dismiss Mr. Pereira without notice which has today been upheld by the Court of Appeal."
Suspects Arrested After Front Street Stabbing Incident

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday 3rd July, police responded to a report of a fight involving several individuals near the Flagpole on Front Street.
Upon arrival, persons involved in the fracas fled the scene on motorcycles and foot and were pursued by police officers.
A 22-year-old male attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with a stab wound to his lower back.
His injury, which was deemed non-life threatening, was treated and he was later discharged.
Police have arrested three persons in connection with the incident.
Suspects Arrested in Connection With Quan Marley Lowe Murder Investigation

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Quan Marley Lowe.
One of suspects, a 24-year-old Sandys Parish man, has been charged in relation to this matter and is expected to appear before a Magistrate tomorrow, Monday 5th July, during the plea court session.
The other two have been released on police bail, pending further inquiries.
Acting Detective Inspector, Jason Smith, the lead investigator in this matter said: “This inquiry remains active and has shown that when the police and public work together, we can solve these murders and bring to justice those responsible.
We are aware that there were between 6 and 8 persons involved in the assault on Quan Marley Lowe and so there are persons in our community that have yet to be held accountable.
To that end, we are renewing our appeal for anyone with information to please come forward and assist by telling us what you know, despite how insignificant you may believe that information to be.”
BPS Aware of Unverified Social Media Message Titled ‘Stay Safe Ladies’

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of an unverified message being circulated on social media titled ‘Stay Safe Ladies.’
However, the BPS is not aware of any similar incidents of sexual assault reported to police recently.
Nonetheless, the BPS Vulnerable Persons Unit would like to reiterate that any incidents of sexual assault should be reported at the earliest opportunity.
In addition, anyone going out socialising is reminded to consider the following safety advice.
If you are in the company of people you do not know very well, do not let your drink out of your sight.
While out socialising, do not accept drinks from unknown individuals.
Alcohol impairs your judgment. Always have a friend with you - use the buddy system.
BPS Commends Peaceful COVID-19 Restrictions Protest Rally

The Bermuda Police Service, (BPS), wishes to commend those members of the public who participated in yesterday’s protest rally at the Cabinet Office, for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves.
Chief Inspector Alex Rollin – Community Policing Division, said: “The organisers were in constant contact with the Bermuda Police Service in the lead-up to yesterday’s event.
They kept us abreast of what their plans were for the day and assured us there would be neither encouragement nor tolerance of any illegal activity or untoward behaviour.
The rally passed without incident and the police presence at the Cabinet Office Grounds was therefore kept at a minimum, with officers engaging only in crowd control duties.”
As we have stated in the past the BPS supports peaceful protest, as long as such protest is done within the confines of the law.
19-Year-Old Man Left Injured in the Road After Suspected Collision

Inquiries continue by the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) regarding the circumstances of a suspected collision, after a 19-year-old Southampton man is hospitalised.
Around 1:10am Saturday, 26th June, police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel responded to a reported single vehicle collision on Palmetto Road in Devonshire, near the junction with Frog Lane.
Details remain limited at this time. However, it appears that on the arrival of first responders the 19-year-old Southampton man was found unconscious and injured, lying in the road with several individuals gathered around him.
He was tended to on site by EMTs before being transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for further treatment of facial, back and internal injuries.
A BPS Traffic Collision Investigator, along with Forensic Support Unit personnel, processed the scene.
This incident is believed to have involved a single motorcycle – but the vehicle involved was not found at the scene. It is also unclear if the injured teen was the rider or pillion passenger at the time of the incident.
Appeal for Witnesses After Man Sustains Serious Stab Wound

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is investigating a stabbing incident that occurred this past weekend, after a 25-year-old Sandys parish man attended the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Details are limited at this time. However, it is understood that the 25-year-old man sustained a serious stab wound to his chest – although at last check, the injury was described as not life threatening.
Around 2:50am Sunday, 27th June, police officers were dispatched to the hospital to make initial inquiries, but few details regarding the circumstances were available at that time.
It is believed that the Sandys parish resident was in the Somerset Road, Cambridge Road area late Saturday night and/or early Sunday morning, before being transported to hospital by a private car.
Sixth Road Fatality of 2021 [Updated]

At 10:00 a.m. today Friday 25th June, police received a 911 call reporting a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a motorcar, on Knapton Hill near Knapton Estate Road, Smith's parish.
Police and other first responders arrived to find the motorcycle rider, a 23-year-old-male, unresponsive and being attended to by members of the public.
EMTs quickly began performing CPR on the victim who was transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where, sadly, he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The other vehicle involved in the collision, described only as “a black car”, left the scene before police arrived.
This incident is now being investigated as a fatal hit and run road traffic collision and police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and its driver.

This marks the island’s sixth road fatality for 2021.
