Commissioner of Police Mr. Stephen M. Corbishley – Good afternoon gentlemen.
The purpose is to make an appeal to the public around a concerning crime trend we’ve seen develop over the past couple of weeks.
So far we’ve had nine robberies involving motorcycles normally involving two males described as black males on mopeds committing nine offences.
Murder of Taylor Matthew Grier (Speaking notes of Acting Chief Inspector Arthur Glasford)
At around 10:00pm on Friday, July 27, 2018, whilst Court Street was bustling with individuals enjoying a beautiful evening, the calm of the night was interrupted when two men on a motorcycle wearing dark clothing and full face visor helmets descended south on Tills Hill in the area of Elliot Street. The gunman got off the motorcycle and approached a group of men congregating in the area and began to open fire.
Police and other first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish at 3:29am Sunday morning.
It appears that an 18 year old woman was traveling east on North Shore Road when she lost control of her motorcycle and crashed.
The area in the Great Sound commonly known as Paradise Lakes is traditionally a ‘raft up’ area for members of the public in the boating community during the summer months.
After an increasing number of reports regarding anti-social behaviour and the dangerous use of watercraft in that area so far this summer boating season, the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit will provide a highly visible police presence – particularly during the weekends – to deter any undesirable activity as well as to provide reassurance to the boating public and nearby island residents.
Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 16 year old Syhon Akinstall of Pembroke who was last seen on Tuesday afternoon (July 10th).
He is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 pounds, with a medium brown complexion and medium length black hair.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 295-0011.
Around 5am today (July 7th) police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported collision involving two motorcycles on South Road in Paget, near the junction with Southcote Road.
It appears that the two motorcyclists were traveling in opposite directions along South Road when the collision occurred.
The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) would like to advise the public that some recent precautionary tests have returned positive results regarding the presence of asbestos containing material amongst some files within filing cabinets in the Criminal Records Office.
The safety, health and wellbeing of our staff and that of the public remains a main priority for the BPS.
A few minutes after 10:00am, police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on South Road in Paget 10 meters east of the Elbow Beach entrance. It appears that a car was traveling west and a motorcycle with a female rider and a pillion passenger was traveling in an easterly direction when it appears that the rider of the cycle collided with the car. As a result, the rider and her passenger were taken to the hospital with the rider suffering serious leg and foot injuries and the pillion passenger appears to have non-life-threatening injuries.
