A 19 year old man and a 16 year old boy (since confirmed to be 17 years old) have been arrested this afternoon (April 9th) in connection with the appalling video circulating on social media showing acts of cruelty carried out on lambs in Sandys parish. Both remain in police custody at this time.
The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance so far and continue to appeal for persons with relevant information to come forward, as additional individuals are being sought regarding this matter.
Acting Superintendent Nicolas Pedro: "In October 2017, Roberto Marques [a Customs officer at the time] was convicted with another man for supplying cocaine along with other offences.
On Thursday 4th April 2019 in the Supreme Court of Bermuda, Justice Carlisle Greaves presided over a confiscation hearing for Mr. Marques.
The Financial Crime Unit of the BPS presented evidence that found that Marques had benefitted from his criminal activity over a six-year period valued at over $255,000.
The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 51 year old Mr. Anthony Shawn Smith and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Smith – understood to be a Pembroke resident – was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding east crashed over an embankment on Palmetto Road, Devonshire between Dock Hill and Parsons Lane around 3:40am Tuesday, March 26th.
Detectives are currently following lines of inquiry regarding a 55 year old man – said to be from Hamilton parish – who was seriously injured in an alleged altercation sometime between Wednesday, March 20th and Friday, March 22nd.
He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit Friday night (March 22nd) and at last check this morning (March 26th) remained in the Intensive Care Unit listed in stable condition.
Deputy Commissioner Designate Mr. Darrin Simons, today graduated from the prestigious Strategic Command Course (SCC) n the UK.
He received his graduation certificate from the Course Director, Chief Constable Dee Collins, Chief Executive of the College of Policing Mr. Mike Cunningham and the UK Home Secretary Mr. Sajid Javid.
The SCC course, which began in January 2019 and put delegates through a comprehensive programme of learning including business and finance skills, ethical leadership and command training, seeks to prepare candidates for roles as Chief Officers in the UK and other international police forces.
The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 61 year old Mr. Keith Peniston and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Peniston – said to be of no fixed abode – was found barely conscious, lying on Parliament Street near the junction with Front Street around 9:30pm Wednesday, March 20th by police officers on mobile patrol in the City of Hamilton.

The official launch of the Parish Constables and community Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers (West & East) was held 5:30pm Thursday, March 14th at Police Headquarters in Prospect Devonshire.
Dignitaries on hand for the official launch included His Excellency the Governor, Mr. John Rankin CMG, the Minister of National Security the Hon. Wayne M. Caines JP MP and the Commissioner of Police Mr. Stephen Corbishley – as well as community partners, family and friends.
The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has traditionally supported SCARS (Saving Children And Revealing Secrets) Bermuda by conducting that specific training delivered as a supplement to our normal training regime.
Since 2015, the BPS has had approximately 400 members of staff SCARS certified.
Today (March 12th) for the first time, the BPS has delivered the training as a mandatory part of our initial Recruit Training Course.
As a result, twelve BPS recruits will be entering their policing careers SCARS certified.
Police responded to a report of a robbery that took place on Ord Road in Paget.
Details are still emerging but it appears that at 8:30am today (Saturday), a male entered “The Minimart” on Ord Road in Paget and brandished what appeared to be a bladed article and demanded money.
He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and he then left the area on foot.
