Police Cadet Alnique Young-Looby Wins Relay for Life Song Contest

The Bermuda Police Service celebrates the achievement of Cadet Alnique Young-Looby, who entered and won the 2019 Relay for Life of Bermuda song competition.

The competition required persons entering to record a song that Relay for Life could use as their theme song.

Cadet Young-Looby, a singer and aspiring songwriter, recently lost her grandfather to cancer and collaborated with her vocal coach in writing the winning song.

Three Years Later, Patrick Dill Murder Investigation Still Active

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward in the murder of Patrick Dill, who was shot outside of his home approximately 11pm on Saturday the 21st day of May 2016.

This case remains an active murder investigation and today marks the third anniversary since Patrick was killed.

The investigating team would like to speak with witnesses in the Crossland Lane area of Pembroke that might have seen persons acting suspiciously in the area before and after the fatal shooting, as well as persons that have information about this callous murder.

911 Now Operational, Work Continues to Restore Full Service [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can confirm that service to the 911 emergency telephone number has been restored.

However, technicians continue working to restore service to the main police telephone number 295-0011.

A power outage incident at the BPS Data Centre this morning caused 911 and 295-0011 to fail.

Investigation Underway After Burglary at Vera P. Card in St. George’s

Thieves gained entry to the Vera P. Card store on Water Street in St. George’s around 3am Saturday, May 11th and stole a quantity of jewellery.

The suspects, described as three males wearing dark coloured clothing, made good their escape on foot shortly after the burglary.

An investigation into the incident is underway and witnesses or members of the public – particularly any passing motorists – that saw suspicious activity in the Water Street, York Street St. George’s area between 2:20am and 3am Saturday are encouraged to call Detective Constable Seymour Foote on 247-1154 or 717-2282.

Female Motorcyclist Injured in Collision With Police Vehicle [Updated]

Around 12:20am Sunday, May 12th a collision occurred involving a police vehicle and a motorcyclist on King Street near the junction with Reid Street, in the City of Hamilton.

Early information indicates that the collision occurred as the police vehicle pursued one motorcyclist along King Street, but struck a second motorcyclist that was traveling along Reid Street.

The first motorcyclist made good their escape.

Second Group Meeting Held With Management of Liquor Licenced Premises

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) recently held a meeting 2pm Monday, 6th May 2019 with the management of liquor licenced premises at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect, Devonshire – with invitations sent in advance to the relevant sports clubs for their attendance and input.

Approximately 35 persons attended – including representatives from sports clubs throughout the island as well as restaurant and bar establishments.

Renewed Scam Advisory: Ignore & Delete Obviously Deceptive E-mails

The Bermuda Police Service is once again advising all residents to remain vigilant regarding phone calls, e-mails and other correspondence from unknown persons that attempt to obtain personal information and other sensitive data – or even attempt to extort money.

An example of a popular e-mail scam is provided below. So far, recent scams of this type reported to police have not resulted in any financial losses. However, it is strongly recommended that senior citizens continue to be especially vigilant.

Reported Two Vehicle Collision on Harrington Sound Road [Updated]

A collision has been reported on Harrington Sound Road in Smith’s parish in the vicinity of Tom Moore’s Tavern.

Early information indicates that a car and a van were involved, with any injuries believed to be non-life threatening at this time.

Traffic diversions are currently in effect and motorists are advised to take alternate routes if possible until further notice.

Sudden Death of 69 Year Old David Aitken

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 69 year old David Aitken and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Aitken was found in an unresponsive state inside a car around 12:40pm Tuesday, April 30th at a Hidden Lane, Pembroke property by a family member.

He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead.
