Acting Commissioner of Police, Na’imah Astwood – “Around 10:55am Thursday, 16th May 2024, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) received a 911 call regarding a suspected mental health emergency in the Wellington Slip Road, St. George’s area.
BPS officers were promptly dispatched to that location. Shortly after arriving and interacting with a 61-year-old local woman, she became distressed and after that, unresponsive.
The attending officers immediately rendered first aid.
Emergency medical technicians then arrived and the woman was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, with lifesaving efforts in progress.
Sadly, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
In view of the fact the BPS engaged with the local woman just prior to her death, the BPS has implemented our Post Incident Management procedures and notified the Police Complaints Authority.
Additionally, a BPS Family Liaison Officer has been assigned and a full investigation into this matter is currently underway, with relevant updates to be provided in due course.”
Collision Investigation Continues After Pedestrian Injured in Warwick

The investigation regarding a reported collision involving a car and a pedestrian that occurred around 3:15pm Saturday, 11th May 2024, along Middle Road Warwick near Watch Hill Lane, continues.
Apparently the injured pedestrian, said to be a 31-year-old man visiting from the UK, was treated on site by emergency medical technicians before being transported, conscious, to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for further treatment.
It is understood that the UK visitor was later discharged from hospital, after receiving additional relevant medical care.
The car driver, said to be an 83-year-old Warwick man, was not hurt.
Traffic in the area was diverted for approximately three hours, while the scene was processed.
The Bermuda Police Service thanks those witnesses that have already come forward and encourages anyone else with information that can assist this investigation to contact Constable Shayna Simmons by calling 211, or sending an e-mail to ssimmons@bps.bm.
Man Hospitalised After Stabbing Incident in Sandys Parish

Around 12:40am Sunday, 12th May 2024, police received a report of a stabbing incident.
Apparently a 33-year-old Sandys parish man was assaulted by another individual in the parking lot between Legends Bar and Mr. Chicken restaurant, along Somerset Road, Sandys parish.
The injured man was conscious and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via private car for treatment of multiple stab wounds, which are considered non-life threatening.
At last check, the 33-year-old was listed in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
The scene was forensically processed and inquiries continue.

Pedestrian Injured by Car in Warwick Collision

Around 3:15pm on Saturday 11th May 2023, police and other first responders were dispatched to a report of a serious collision on Middle Road, Warwick; near Watch Hill Lane, involving a private motorcar, and a pedestrian.
Information surrounding the accident is unclear at this time. However, it is believed that the male pedestrian may have suffered a head injury.
Police are currently processing the scene. Diversions have been put in place at Burnt House Hill and Tamarind Vale.
Anyone who may have witness this collision is asked to call police on 211.

Fraud Investigation

The Financial Crime Unit of the Bermuda Police Service carried out a pre-dawn operation on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, in relation to an ongoing investigation into persons defrauding a financial institution and one of its clients of a significant sum of money.
Warrants executed at different locations across the island, resulted in the arrests of three suspects who are currently in police custody.
A quantity of cash as well as other items believed to be the proceeds of crime were recovered during the execution of those warrants.
The investigation into this matter remains ongoing and those arrested will be appearing before the courts in due course.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith of the Specialist Crime Division stated, “I wish to thank those persons who came forward and provided information which enabled Investigators to make significant headway with this matter. Their assistance has proven invaluable in putting a stop to an illegal activity which may have otherwise remained unknown to police.”
“This type of partnership benefits the entire community as it enables us to bring perpetrators to justice and in so doing make Bermuda safer.”
Victim Update: Middletown Lane, Pembroke Shooting Investigation

Two males shot during a firearms incident which occurred on Middletown Lane, Pembroke around 2:05pm Thursday, 2nd May 2024, remain warded at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and are recovering from their injuries.
The investigations into all confirmed recent firearms incidents, remain ongoing.

Traffic Advisory: Airport Emergency

There is an ongoing emergency situation at the L.F. Wade International Airport which has required that the facility be evacuated.
Passengers have disembarked the British Airways flight that was due to leave this evening for the United Kingdom.
All passengers are safe and well.
As a result of this development, both the Causeway and Kindley Field Road will remain closed while the situation is addressed.
We will provide updates as they become available.
Update: The roads have been reopened to regular traffic flow.
Second Road Fatality of 2024: 23-Year-Old Rhyn Bearden

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can now confirm the death of 23-year-old Rhyn Bearden, Bermuda’s second road fatality of 2024, and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Bearden died in hospital later Thursday morning, 25th April 2024, after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck and a wall around 9am that Thursday.
The fatal collision occurred at the junction of Khyber Pass and Smiths Avenue, Warwick.
A BPS Family Liaison Officer is providing relevant support to Mr. Bearden’s family.
The Roads Policing Unit continues to investigate this road fatality and renews the appeal for any witnesses that have not already come forward, or anyone with any relevant information, to call 247-1788.
Alternatively, please share any information that you may have with a police officer you’re familiar with.
Collision on Front Street

Around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, police officers attended a multiple vehicle road traffic collision in the area of the number five car park on Front Street in the City of Hamilton.
Reports indicate the 35-year-old female driver of a motorcar entered the number five car park and drove into one of the bays as she attempted to park the vehicle.
She reportedly lost control of the car and struck a number of motorcycles parked in the cycle bay within the car park.
Her vehicle went through a hedge bordering the car park and out onto Front Street.
She struck a number of other bikes parked in the cycle parking bays on the southern side of Front Street, before also striking a truck, which was travelling west along Front Street as well as a motorcar which was parked in a parking bay on the northern side of Front Street.
There were no reported injuries.
Several of the motorcycles struck were left with extensive damage.
