Confirmed Firearm Incident in Paget: No Reported Injuries

Detectives are currently investigating a confirmed firearm incident that occurred around 12:55am Tuesday, 27th February 2024, outside a Tribe Road Number 5, Paget home.
Bermuda Police Service (BPS) patrol officers responded and secured the scene.
Forensic evidence collected at that location confirmed that a firearm had been discharged.
However, there were no reported injuries.
So far, limited information indicates that two potential suspects were travelling together on a motorcycle in the area, at the time the gunshots were heard.

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) issued a public advisory on 20th February 2024, concerning the suspected presence of fentanyl-laced heroin in the community, which has resulted in the hospitalisation of three individuals.
On Saturday, 24th February 2024, the BPS executed an operation dubbed ‘Operation Holly’, under the authority of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Police officers from the Drug Unit, Tactical Department, and Criminal Investigation Unit participated in the exercise.
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug with intent to supply, after police conducted search warrants at three residences in Pembroke Parish, seizing a quantity of suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia, and cash.
Superintendent Sherwin Joseph, Crime Division, emphasized, "The successful seizures have effectively disrupted a drug network operating in Bermuda and have contributed to the protection of our community from the harmful effects of illicit or dangerous drugs.”
The Bermuda Police Service remains committed to fostering a safe and secure environment for all residents.

Witness Appeal: Disturbance Believed Linked to Confirmed Firearm Incident

Around 9:55 a.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024, police received a report of a disturbance at Warwick Pharmacy carpark.
Information received indicated approximately six males were involved and two of them had brandished knives.
The suspects left the area on motorcycles prior to police arrival.
This incident is believed to be linked with the shooting which occurred later on the said day on South Avenue, Southampton.
Police are particularly interested in speaking with persons who were in the carpark while the incident was in progress.
We would also like to speak with anyone else who may have witnessed or who may have any information at all, on this matter.

Witness Appeal: Confirmed Firearm Incident, No Reported Injuries

Police are investigating a confirmed firearms incident which occurred in the Southampton area on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
Around 4:22 p.m. on that date police received a report of a single gunshot heard in the area.
Detectives are now looking for two suspects who rode away from the scene on a dark coloured motorcycle which did not have license plates.
The suspects were last seen traveling in an easterly direction along Middle Road, Warwick.

Collision in St. George’s

Around 9:30am on Wednesday 21st of February 2024, police and other first responders were dispatched to a reported single vehicle collision on St. David’s Road, St. George’s.
Initial information suggests that a 22 year old female was traveling west on a motorcycle, when she lost control of the vehicle on the bend near the old bridge.
On arrival, first responders found the woman to be unconscious. She was conveyed to King Edward Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries, the extent of which are unknown at this time.
However, at last check, she was conscious and alert.
Traffic was diverted on to Southside Road, while police processed the scene.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to call PC Tavares Douglas on 211.
Public Advisory (Fentanyl)

The Bermuda Police Service wishes to alert the public to the presence of suspected fentanyl laced heroin in the community.
There have been three instances where individuals taken to hospital for treatment for suspected overdose on this illegal substance.
An investigation into these matters is now underway.
The public are advised that Fentanyl use, even in small doses, can result in serious adverse effects, which are compounded when combined with other drugs, particularly other opioids such as heroin. Individuals who use this drug put themselves in very real danger, which can potentially occur very soon after only one instance of fentanyl use.
Signs of overdose:
Small, constricted “pinpoint pupils”
Falling asleep or losing consciousness
Slow, weak, or no breathing
Choking or gurgling sounds
Limp body
Cold and/or clammy skin
Discolored skin (especially in lips and nails)
Side effects of fentanyl and dangers of fentanyl misuse can include (but are not limited to):
Hallucinations and visual disturbances.
Drowsiness and nausea.
Confusion.
Respiratory distress.
Muscle rigidity.
Unconsciousness or sedation.
Seizures.
Overdose.
If you suspect someone may have used Fentanyl or Fentanyl laced substances, you should:
Immediately contact 911.
Try to keep the person awake and breathing.
Lay the person on their side to prevent choking.
Stay with the person until emergency assistance arrives.

BPS Driver Training Courses Advisory for All Road Users

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Driver Training Unit currently has several driver training courses in progress.
All involve the use of police cars and police motorcycles, at times travelling at high speeds, on our roads.
The police car and motorcycle training started Monday, 12th February 2024, with this latest training scheduled to be completed by Friday, 8th March 2024.
BPS driver training currently underway includes three-week standard, response and advanced car courses, as well as a three-week standard BPS motorcycle course.
A two-week instructors in car course is also underway.
Use of emergency equipment (lights and sirens) will depend on the training objective.
Members of the public can recognise the BPS car driver training vehicles by the training plate at the front and rear of the police vehicle.
Trainee BPS motorcyclists will be wearing high visibility vests.
Road users are reminded to give way and exercise caution when they encounter BPS driver training vehicles, just as they would any emergency vehicle.
Witness Appeal: Reported Car & Pedestrian Collision in Devonshire [Updated]

Police are investigating a reported road traffic collision, involving a pedestrian and motorcar, which occurred near the junction of Alexandra Road and Middle Road, Devonshire, around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Information is that a a motor car was traveling west along Middle Road in Devonshire, near the junction with Alexandra Road, when a young man ran across the street, resulting in a collision.
The young man, believed to be between 15-17 years of age, got up and attempted to leave the scene, narrowly avoiding being struck by another vehicle.
He is described as having light skin, braces, black hair worn low and of small to medium build.
He was wearing a black t-shirt, black and grey pants, and carrying a backpack.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call 247-1705 or, the main police number, 295-0011.
Update: The parents or guardian of the young man involved in the collision are also asked to make contact with police.
Bermuda Reserve Police Seek New Recruits for Voluntary Service

Men and women from 18 to 57 years of age, seeking a unique opportunity to volunteer within our community, are encouraged to apply for the Bermuda Reserve Police.
The recruitment process involves written tests, physical tests and a medical assessment.
Applicants are advised that standards for the Bermuda Reserve Police are similar to the Bermuda Police Service.
Basic training will cover many subjects in depth, to the same level of career police recruits.
Similarly, duties performed by Reserve Police officers are many and varied. They are trained in the basics of police work and have the same powers of arrest as career police officers.
It should also be noted that the Commissioner of Police may deem an applicant ineligible at any stage of the recruitment process.
An initial commitment of three years’ service is expected of successful Reserve Police Constable candidates.

Witness Appeal: Kyari Flood Murder Investigation One Year On

Around 1:00pm, Monday, February 13, 2023, police received a call from a member of the public who found the lifeless body of a male in a secluded area covered by trees and shrubbery off of Border Lane South, Friswells Road, Pembroke.
The body was that of 23-year-old Kyari Flood of Pembroke Parish, who died as a result of gunshot wounds. His death was the first murder of 2023.
A 20-year-old male from Devonshire and a 19-year-old male from Pembroke were arrested shortly after the discovery of Mr. Flood’s body. Both men were subsequently released on police bail while the investigation into the murder of Mr. Flood continues.
Detective Inspector Jason Smith of the Serious Crimes Unit stated: “I wish to thank those members of the public who have so far come forward and provided us with information on this matter. Please understand that any information, even if you think it to be insignificant, could prove valuable to our ongoing investigation.”
Mr. Smith added: “While we are deeply appreciative of the assistance we’ve received from the public so far, we know there are other members of the community who have information that could prove helpful in solving this crime, bringing those responsible for Mr. Flood’s murder to justice.
