Car Overboard: Shark Hole, Hamilton Parish [Updated]

First responders, including police officers, are currently at Shark Hole in Hamilton parish regarding a car that went overboard around 9:23am today (Friday, 11th March 2022).

Details are limited at this time. However, it is believed that three occupants – one adult female and two children – were in the vehicle when it went overboard.

All three were extracted from the vehicle and have been taken to hospital. A statement from the scene is anticipated shortly.

Update: Sadly, Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels confirmed at the scene that one of the young children extracted from the car that went overboard at Shark Hole in Hamilton parish has since been pronounced dead.

It is also understood that the adult female driver and the other young child involved received non-life threatening injuries. Numerous members of the public assisted first responders with the rescue effort.

Traffic diversions remain in effect in the Shark Hole, Hamilton parish area. Currently motorists are being rerouted at Paynters Road and Wilkinson Avenue, while inquiries continue at the scene regarding the circumstances of this tragic incident.

Any witnesses are encouraged to call 211 or the main police number 295-0011 as soon as possible.

Scene Still Being Processed: Motorists are reminded that traffic diversions remain in effect in the Shark Hole, Hamilton parish area – and are encouraged to use alternate routes until further notice.

A crane recently arrived at the scene to recover the car involved in this morning’s tragic incident.

Therefore, road users are still being rerouted at Paynters Road and Wilkinson Avenue, while inquiries continue.

Once again, any witnesses are encouraged to call 211 or the main police number 295-0011 as soon as possible.

Two Injured in Shooting at Devonshire Recreation Club: Inquiries Underway

Shortly before midnight on Thursday, 10th March 2022, police responded to a firearms incident, which took place at the Devonshire Recreation Club.

On arrival, it was ascertained that a 25-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man had been shot. The two were transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via private transportation. At last check, they were being treated for what was described as non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is in the early stages. However, it is believed that approximately 30 to 50 people were in attendance at the club, when two suspects rode onto the premises and fired several rounds at persons in attendance. It is also believed that there may be a second motorcycle involved, also carrying two people.

At the scene, Detective Sergeant Jason Smith said, “We are appealing to those in the community, in particular those persons who were in attendance at the Devonshire Rec and saw the shooting to make contact with us, so we can bring some closure to the families of these two victims.

As we progress, we will further update the public. The suspect vehicle is believed to have travelled along Frog Lane, Devonshire in the direction of the Palmetto Road area. We are also appealing to area residents who may have heard a bike or possibly two bikes speeding away immediately after the gunshots, to contact us to assist with the direction of travel. Residents who have CCTV in the Frog Lane and Palmetto Road Devonshire area are urged to make contact with police as well.”

Sudden Death of 56-Year-Old Darius Tucker

Detective Chief Inspector Sherwin Joseph – “I would like to provide an update on the release made by the Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels yesterday (Wednesday, 9th March) relative to the discovery of a motor vehicle with an unidentified person inside. After receiving a 911 call around 8:40am on 9th March 2022, Coast Guard divers responded and found the vehicle overboard at Marginal Wharf in St David’s.

We can now confirm that the person found in the vehicle has been identified as Mr. Darius Tucker. Please join me in expressing our sincere condolences to the wife and family of Mr. Tucker. The Bermuda Police Service has appointed a Family Liaison Officer to the family, as we continue to support them during this difficult time.

Our investigations continue into this most unfortunate incident, led by our Criminal Investigations Unit. Investigators have completed several actions and continue to pursue several lines of inquiry, so that we can better understand what has occurred.

We would again like to appeal to anyone with CCTV in the St. David’s area to please review your cameras from around 6:30pm on Sunday 6th March 2022. We are particularly interested in the movements of a white motor van, registration number IN3074, with a DTS logo on the side, which was last seen heading into St. David’s around that time and date.

Reported Missing Person: 56-Year-Old Darius Tucker [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating fifty-six-year-old Darius Tucker.

Mr. Tucker is described as being 5’ 10” in height, of medium build, brown complexioned, with black hair worn in a low cut.

Mr. Tucker was last seen around 4:30p.m. on Sunday 6th March, 2022, in the area of Crow Lane, Pembroke.

At the time he was driving a white van with licence plate number, IN3074, with a DTS SERVICES logo on the side.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of fifty-six-year-old Darius Tucker, is asked to call 211 or, the main police number, 295-0011.

Drugs Seizure

On Friday 4th March 2022, police executed warrants at a residence on Queen Street in St. George, as well as at a location on King’s Square, in response to reported drug dealing in these areas.

During the exercise headed by Inspector Shakisha Minors and Acting Inspector Anthony Smith, a quantity of controlled drugs was seized.

The items seized have been sent to the Government Analyst for testing.

During the exercise an eighteen-year-old male suspect was arrested for outstanding warrants, as well as possession of bladed weapons.

He has since been released on Police bail.

Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell of the Tactical Support Division said, "This is an example of what can be achieved when the public works to assist the Bermuda Police Service in making Bermuda safer.

Individuals concerned for their community came forward and provided information which enabled us to make these seizures. We would like to thank those members of the public."

Man Arrested for Social Media Threats, Menacing Comments Directed at Premier

This morning, officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit carried out a search at a Hamilton Parish residence, after an investigation was launched into threats and other menacing comments made on social media toward the Premier Hon. David Burt during a live interview.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested and detained in relation to this matter.

Persons should be mindful that threats, offensive and other menacing acts towards anyone on social media maybe contrary to the Electronic Communications Act 2011, and persons committing such acts if found guilty maybe imprisoned for one year or be fined $25,000.00, or both.

No further information on this investigation will be provided at this time.

Man Stabbed in St. George’s on Sunday Remains Hospitalised in ICU

Around 7:25pm on Sunday January 9th 2022, a 56-year-old man attended the Southside Police Station, to report that he had been stabbed in the area of the Scrap Yard, Southside, St. George’s.

The victim was transported to KEMH for treatment of his injuries, where he remains in ICU. However, his condition is not known at this time.

A short while later, a 58-year-old man was arrested and detained in connection with this incident.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to this stabbing incident to call the Criminal Investigations Department on 247-1744 or 211 as soon as possible.

Drug Seizure & Arrest Made After Traffic Stop

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, 6th January, 2022, police officers attempted to stop a motorcycle rider who failed to stop at a red light at the junction of Burnaby Street and Front Street.

The motorcycle rider ignored the officers and a short chase ensued. The rider, a seventeen-year-old male, was eventually stopped without damage or injury and detained.

Checks revealed the bike was uninsured, unlicensed and the rider had no valid driver's license.

Upon being searched at Hamilton Police Station, the rider was found to be in possession of a number of small plastic twists and numerous sealable baggies containing substances believed to be controlled drugs. As a result, he was arrested for possession of drugs with intent to supply.

During a subsequent search of his residence, officers recovered items of drug paraphernalia.

All seized items, were submitted for forensic analysis to determine the presence of controlled drugs.

Road Safety Reminder

More than eight thousand dollars in traffic fines issued in just the first week of the new year.

Fines were handed out for impaired driving and for speeding offences with speeds ranging from 65KMPH to 85KMPH.

Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell of the Bermuda Police Service Tactical Unit remarked, “It’s no secret speed and driving whilst impaired or, a combination of the two, are the biggest contributing factors to road traffic collisions in general and fatal road traffic collisions in general.

There were seventeen fatal road traffic collisions in 2021 with the vast majority of them involving excessive speed, impaired driving or a combination of the two."

Rider Hurt: Reported Single Vehicle Rental Cycle Crash on North Shore Road

Around 7:00pm on Wednesday 5th January 2022, police and first responders were dispatched to a report of single vehicle road traffic collision on North Shore Road, just east of the Aquarium.

A 67 year-old man, who was traveling on a livery cycle, has been transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries, the extent of which is unknown at this time.

Traffic is being diverted around the scene using a single lane system. We are advising motorists to use alternative routes until this scene has been cleared.
