Man Arrested in Connection with Murder & Attempted Murder

A 21 year old Pembroke man was arrested at the L.F. Wade International Airport by detectives from the Serious Crime Unit at 8pm on Wednesday 11th August, in connection with the murder of Raymond Rawlins during the early morning hours of Monday, August 9th and the attempted murder of Prince Edness during the early morning hours of Friday, August 6th. The Pembroke man was apprehended in the departure area after checking in for a departing flight. He remains in Police custody while enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 47 year old Raymond Troy Rawlins, a well known figure in the Court Street area. An initial account of the incident is that two men pulled up outside The Spinning Wheel nightclub in a light green car and ran across Court Street into Spinning Wheel, right behind Mr. Rawlins who had just entered the club.

Confirmed Fatal Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Around 12:30am on Monday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident at The Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street in Pembroke. The victim, a 47 year old Pembroke man, was shot multiple times inside the club. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. No further information will be given until next of kin have been notified. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.

There were people in The Spinning Wheel nightclub at the time of the incident and some of those individuals have come forward to assist officers with their inquiries.

Confirmed Firearm Incident in Devonshire

Around 12:05am on Monday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident at the Mid-Atlantic Boat Club on North Shore Road in Devonshire. A 21 year old Pembroke man was injured and attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. The scene has been cordoned off and is being forensically examined for evidence.

An active investigation into this matter is underway. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-8115 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.

Reported Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Around 10:40pm on Friday, Police responded to a reported firearm incident in the Middle Terrace, Pembroke area. Officers attended the scene and spoke with area residents; however at that time nothing was found to substantiate the report. Inquiries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital revealed that no one has been admitted with gunshot wounds. Inquiries into the matter are ongoing. Update - Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a confirmed firearm incident that occurred around 1:15am on Friday in the Elliot Street, Pembroke area, where a firearm was discharged at the victim, a 24 year old Pembroke man, who was injured as a result. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and remains in a stable condition.

Police are conducting inquiries and have collected forensic evidence from the scene. Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity involving individuals or vehicles in the Elliot Street area around 1am on Friday.

Around 1:15am on Friday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident in the Court Street/Princess Street, Pembroke area. A 24 year old Pembroke man was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. At last check he was in stable condition. An active investigation into this incident is underway. Sudden Death

Around 8:30am on Thursday 5th August, Police attended a reported medical emergency at a Pembroke residence. A 62 year old man who resided at that address was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment, where he was pronounced dead at 2:12pm by a doctor. An autopsy will be performed on the deceased in the near future. Foul play is not suspected at this time; however inquiries are being conducted into the circumstances surrounding his death. No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified. The Bermuda Police Service would like to extend condolences to the family of the deceased.

Update - Reported Firearm Incident in Sandys Parish

The Bermuda Police Service Serious Crime Unit is actively seeking witnesses to a firearm incident that occurred at 7.40pm on Sunday 1st August at the shallow water jetty next to the Boaz Island Service Station in Somerset. It is believed that a firearm was discharged at the victim a 31 year old male; thankfully he did not receive any injuries but was clearly shaken by the ordeal. The victim was sat astride a jet ski in the waters next to the jetty and managed to make off following the attack.
