Disturbance

Around 2:30am on Saturday, members of the Police Support Unit (PSU) attended a reported disturbance at the Ozone Nightclub on Front Street in the City of Hamilton. On arrival officers observed several individuals involved in a scuffle. As Police moved in to deal with the situation several members of the crowd attempted to intervene and were subsequently arrested. Four men ranging in age from 17 - 45 years old were arrested for obstruction and a 35 year old man was arrested for breach of the peace. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Assault on Police

Around 3am on Saturday, Police on mobile patrol on Front Street in the City of Hamilton observed a man acting in a suspicious manner run from the Emporium building to the parking lot across the street. He then drove off in a car. The car was subsequently pursued and stopped by Police outside of Number 1 Shed on Front Street. A violent struggle ensued; however, despite this the suspect was arrested and detained. Two male officers were injured, with one receiving scratches and abrasions to the face and the other a fractured wrist. The suspect was also injured in the struggle. The officers were taken to KEMH, treated for their injuries and released. The suspect, a 27 year old Pembroke man was taken to KEMH, treated for a neck/shoulder injury and released into Police custody. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Robbery

At 1:30am on Saturday, Police attended a reported robbery on North Shore Road in Pembroke. The victim, a 45 year old Devonshire man, was riding his rental cycle east on North Shore Road when a man on a small blue scooter approached from behind and kicked the rental cycle, causing him to pull over and stop. The victim was then attacked by the suspect, who punched and kicked him about the body before removing his wallet containing $130 in cash and personal items. The Devonshire man was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of his injuries (abrasions to knees and elbows, a bruised right eye and a dislocated left shoulder) and later released. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Weekend Activity

Over the weekend there were 4 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 5 incidents of breaking and entering (2 in Pembroke, 2 in St. George's and 1 in Warwick). There were also 21 damage only road traffic collisions and 6 road traffic collisions resulting in injury.
