Death of Diver

Sun, 2007-08-05

At 4:15pm on Monday, 4 divers boarded a vessel and traveled approximately 2 miles out to the South West Breakers to go diving. Around 5:35pm the divers surfaced only to discover that their boat had drifted off. The group decided to swim back to shore; however one of the divers, a 58 year old Sandy’s parish woman, ran into difficulty. She was aided by the other 3 divers who managed to make their way back to shore a few minutes before 6pm. The divers managed to summon a resident who lived on the property near the shoreline who subsequently called 911. The paramedics came for the Sandy’s parish woman and rushed her to KEMH via ambulance in an unresponsive state. She was later pronounced dead at 8:23pm by an on call physician at the hospital.

No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.
