Update – Recent Sudden Deaths

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 53 year old Frederick Livingstone Gilbert, a St. George’s resident whose lifeless body was found in the waters at Great Bay in St. David’s around 8:45am today. He was pronounced dead at 10:05 this morning by an on call physician.

Police can also now confirm the death of who is believed to be 57 year old Maxwell Gordon Brangman whose lifeless body was found after a fire was extinguished by the Bermuda Fire Service inside a small building on Burcher’s Point, St. David’s around 5:30am Sunday. He was pronounced dead at 7:45am on Sunday by an on call physician at the scene.

In both cases the next of kin have now been notified. The Bermuda Police Service again extends our sincere condolences to the family & friends of both Mr. Brangman and Mr. Gilbert.

Police have commenced investigations and foul play has not been ruled out in either death.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information about these incidents to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-4315 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 1-800-623-8477.

Recently there have been a number of rumours circulating regarding the circumstances of how Mr. Brangman succumbed to his death. This speculation is creating much distress and Police are requesting that if anyone has any information, they should contact the Serious Crime Unit or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline.

The Bermuda Police Service is taking these incidents seriously and has committed a large number of resources to bringing these matters to a successful conclusion. A forensic pathologist will be arriving on island tomorrow to examine both bodies and Police are also working closely with a number of overseas agencies.
