The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 22 year old Raymond Glenn Curtis of Sandy’s parish. At 3.48 am on Saturday Police officers responded to a report of an unresponsive male on Malabar Road, Sandy’s parish. On arrival Police found an injured and semi-conscious male lying in the street. First aid was rendered with the assistance of EMTs from the Bermuda Fire Service and KEMH. Mr. Curtis was conveyed to the King Edward Memorial Hospital where at 4.30am he was pronounced dead by an on duty doctor.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere condolences to the family and close friends of the deceased.

Police officers from BPS Serious Crime Unit under the direction of Chief Inspector Antoine Daniels commenced immediate investigations into this matter.

No autopsy has been performed on the deceased body, therefore the Bermuda Police Service is not in a position to comment on a cause of death, but is treating the sudden death of Raymond Curtis as suspicious.

Currently there is a 25 year old Sandy’s parish man in custody assisting Police with their enquiries and a court appearance is anticipated in the near future.

An autopsy examination will be carried out on the victim’s body by pathologists on Monday 8th September 2008.

To date a number of witnesses have provided assistance to detectives carrying out investigations into this tragic incident and the Bermuda Police Service would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all those persons who have thus far come forward. The investigation is in its infancy and Police are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry before a file can be presented to the Director of Public Prosecutions, as a result the BPS are seeking further public assistance and wish to make the following appeal.
