High Speed Chase

Around 11:20am on Sunday, officers were stationary in a Police vehicle at Barnes Corner in Southampton when they observed a motorcycle make a sudden turn on to South Road. The officers followed the motorcycle and activated the Police vehicle's emergency equipment (lights & siren), but the motorcycle refused to stop. The officers pursued the motorcycle into the Horseshoe Bay beach area, where the rider and passenger abandoned the motorcycle and ran off on foot. However, with the assistance of several other Police units the area was searched and the rider of the motorcycle, a 38 year old Pembroke man and his passenger, a 19 year old Southampton woman were subsequently located and arrested. Further inquiries revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen four days earlier. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Handbag Snatch

Around 6:10pm on Sunday, Police received a report of a handbag snatch on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish, near Blue Hole Hill. On arrival officers spoke with the victims who are visitors to the island. They stated that they were traveling east on North Shore Road approaching Blue Hole Hill when a motorcycle overtook them and they felt their rental cycle shake. It was then they realized that a bag was taken from the rental cycle's basket. The bag contained $60 in cash, a Konica Minolta camera and personal items. The suspect could only be described as a male dressed in black. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
