Around 9:45pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Harrington Sound Road near the junction with Walsingham Lane involving two motorcycles. It appears that one motorcycle was traveling south on Harrington Sound Road and the other motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction when the rider of the motorcycle traveling south attempted to negotiate a bend in the road and crossed the center line, colliding with the motorcycle traveling north. Both motorcycles were extensively damaged as a result. The rider of the motorcycle traveling north, a 30 year old Southampton man, then struck the rider of the motorcycle traveling south, a 43 year old St. George's man once in the forehead with his helmet, resulting in a cut. Following the assault the Southampton man reportedly attempted to leave the scene, but was detained by other motorists. The riders of both motorcycles were then taken to KEMH, as well as the passenger of the north bound cycle, a 25 year old Southampton man. The St. George's man was treated for the cut to the forehead, abrasions to both knees and a cut to the chin. The 30 year old Southampton man was treated for abrasions to his right knee and a cut above his left eye, while the 25 year old Southampton man was treated for a broken right wrist. All were then released. The riders of both motorcycles were subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving; the 43 year old St. George's man failed the alco-analyser test and the 30 year old Southampton man refused to take it. The 30 year old Southampton man and the 25 year old Southampton man were also arrested on suspicion of assault. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact PC Connie Saltus at the St. George's Police Station on 297-1122.
