The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 73 year old Lloyd Grimes of Pembroke. Around 8am on Saturday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision on Roberts Avenue in Devonshire near its junction with Stadium Heights. It appears that the driver of the car, a 73 year old Pembroke man, was traveling north on Roberts Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle, struck the sidewalk and collided with a palm tree, causing the car to overturn. The car was extensively damaged as a result. The driver was temporarily trapped inside the vehicle and extracted by Bermuda Fire Service personnel. The Pembroke man was then rushed to KEMH via ambulance in an unresponsive state and subsequently pronounced dead at 8am by an on call physician. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact PC Francilla Henry on 299-4265 or the main Police number, 295-0011. The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

At this time, it is unclear whether the death of Mr. Grimes was due to a pre-existing medical condition or the road traffic collision; this cannot be determined until an autopsy is completed.
