February 8 - Weekly Review

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, January 31st – Monday, February 7th 2011 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 13
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 28
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 12
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Pembroke = 8, Paget = 1 and Warwick = 2.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 12 vehicles reported stolen, 1 was subsequently recovered.

Injury RTC

At 12:25am on Tuesday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Ord Road in Paget near the junction with Train Track Lane. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling along Ord Road when the rider, a 44 year old Paget man, lost control. The Paget man sustained facial injuries. The motorcycle received relatively minor damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Burglary

Around 1:35pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Beacon Hill Road, Sandys parish residence. It appears that sometime between 6:20am and 12:45pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 10:10am on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Cedarcraft Lane, Sandys parish residence. It appears that sometime earlier that morning an unknown culprit gained entry into the home; however apparently nothing was taken. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals in their neighbourhoods to Police on 295-0011.
