The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, January 24th – Monday, January 31st 2011 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 10
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 28
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 12
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 9
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 1, Paget = 1, Warwick = 3 and Sandys parish = 2.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car also reported stolen during the period. Of the 9 vehicles reported stolen 3 were subsequently recovered including the car.

Assault

Around 11:30pm on Monday, Police and first responders attended a reported assault on North Street in Pembroke. It appears that the victim, a 47 year old man, was assaulted by unknown assailants in the area. He sustained facial injuries and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The victim apparently declined to make a formal complaint.

Burglary

Around 3:55pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Fishermans Hill, Hamilton parish residence. It appears that sometime between 10am and 3:40pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 3pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at an Ord Road, Paget residence. It appears that sometime between 10:15am and 2:55pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a HP laptop computer, a quantity of clothing and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals in their neighbourhoods to Police on 295-0011.
