January 18 - Weekly Review

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, January 10th – Monday, January 17th 2011 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 24
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 23
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 1
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 8
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Pembroke = 4, Warwick = 1 and Southampton = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 8 vehicles reported stolen, 1 was subsequently recovered.

Damage Only RTC

Around 8:15pm on Monday, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision at the junction of North Shore Road and Band Room Lane in Pembroke involving a SUV and a motorcycle. It appears that both vehicles were traveling along North Shore Road when they collided at the junction. The two individuals on the motorcycle fled the scene on foot, leaving the motorcycle behind. The driver of the SUV was not injured. Both vehicles were damaged. The motorcycle was impounded and inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Rawle Massiah on 295-0011.

Around 10:30am on Monday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on North Shore Road in Pembroke near the junction with Vaucrossons Crescent. It appears that a car was traveling along North Shore Road when the driver, a 23 year old Devonshire woman, lost control and collided with a wall. The driver was apparently uninjured. The car received front end damage.
