The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, January 3rd – Monday, January 10th 2011 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 14
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 38
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 9
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 14
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 5, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 3, Pembroke = 2, Warwick = 1 and Sandys parish = 2.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 14 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered.

Injury RTC

Around 11pm on Monday, Police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on St. Luke’s Lane in St. George’s near the junction with Lighthouse Hill. It appears that a SUV was traveling along St. Luke’s Lane when the driver, a 45 year old St. George’s woman, lost control and collided with a wall. The St. George’s woman was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of serious injuries. It is anticipated that she will be flown overseas for further medical treatment. The SUV was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Stephen Allen on 295-0011.

Around 2:30pm on Monday, Police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Longford Road. It appears that an auxiliary cycle was traveling along Middle Road when the rider, a 17 year old Sandys parish man, lost control and collided with the sidewalk. He was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The auxiliary cycle received relatively minor damage.
