The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, December 6th – Monday, December 13th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 17
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 46
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 10
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 12
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 7, Paget = 1 and Southampton = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 12 vehicles reported stolen 1 was subsequently recovered.

Confirmed Firearm Incident in Sandys Parish

Around 11:55pm on Monday, Police responded to a reported firearm incident in the Bridge View Lane, Sandys parish area. Forensic evidence found subsequently suggested that a firearm had been discharged; however no one has reported being injured. An active investigation into this incident is underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crimes Unit on 295-0011. An anonymous call can also be made to the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline at 800-8477.

Burglary

Around 5pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Scott’s Hill Road, Sandys parish residence. It appears that sometime between 12 noon and 4:15pm that day an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash and electronic items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
