The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, October 4th – Monday, October 11th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 25
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 31
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 6
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 21
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 11, Paget = 3, Warwick = 2 and Sandys parish = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 21 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered.

Appeal for Lost Bracelet

Police are appealing for anyone that may have found a men’s gold linked bracelet on Berry Hill Road, Paget between the Botanical Gardens entrance and Tee Street (particularly in the Windgap Lane area) to please contact Acting Inspector Tracy Burgess on 295-0011. The bracelet was lost around 6am Wednesday, September 1st and has sentimental value for the family of Geoffrey Burns, tragically killed in a road traffic collision in that area at the aforementioned date and time. His family is appealing for the public’s assistance in recovering the bracelet.

Handbag Snatch

Around 12:05am on Tuesday, Police received a report of a handbag snatch. It appears that around 11:45pm on Monday the victim, a 60 year old Pembroke woman, was at a bus stop outside the Heron Bay Marketplace in Southampton when she was accosted by an unknown man who took her bag, before running away heading east on Middle Road. The Pembroke woman was not injured. The bag contained a quantity of cash and personal items. The suspect is described as a medium to dark skinned man, approximately 5’4” tall of slim build wearing a black helmet and a dark coloured shirt with metallic writing on the front; he may have also been wearing long green pants and is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
