The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, July 26th – Monday, August 2nd 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 25
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 28
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 1
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 16
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 7, Warwick = 1, Southampton = 4 and Sandys parish = 3.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car and 1 boat (punt) also reported stolen during the period. Of the 16 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered, including the car.

Witness Appeal - Reported Firearm Incident in Sandys Parish

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a reported firearm incident in the Boaz Island, Sandys parish area which officers responded to around 7:40pm on Sunday, August 1st. In particular, detectives are interested in speaking with:

  • Anyone who was in the Mangrove Bay/Boaz Island area Sunday evening
  • Anyone who saw a blue Yamaha motorcycle in the area between 6pm and 7pm that day
  • Anyone who saw what happened and/or may know about the matter

Burglary

Around 2pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Palmetto Vale, Smith’s parish residence. It appears that sometime between 10:45am and 1:45pm that day, an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit(s) stole a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries. All residents should make sure windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended, even for short periods of time. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals in their neighbourhoods to Police on 295-0011.
