The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, June 21st – Monday, June 28th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 19
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 35
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 10
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 23
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 11, Devonshire = 3, Pembroke = 4, Paget = 2, Warwick = 1 and Southampton = 2.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car also reported stolen during the period. Of the 23 vehicles reported stolen, 4 were subsequently recovered, including the car.

Injury RTC

Around 8:15am on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Middle Road and Spring Benny Road in Sandys parish involving a car and a motorcycle. It appears that the motorcycle was traveling west on Middle Road and the car was exiting Spring Benny Road when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 19 year old Sandys parish woman, sustained abrasions to her left hand and back pain. She was examined at the scene by EMTs before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car, a 35 year old Sandys parish woman, was not injured. Both vehicles received moderate front end damage.
