Handbag Snatch - At 10:45am on Wednesday, Police received a report of a handbag snatch. It appears that the complainants, a 54 year old Massachusetts man and a 53 year old Massachusetts woman who are visitors to the island, were riding a rental cycle traveling west on South Road in Southampton near the junction with Middle Road when an unknown man on a motorcycle rode up alongside them and took a beach bag out of the rental cycle’s basket before riding off. The visitors were not injured. The beach bag contained two beach towels and sunscreen. The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark coloured clothing and a black helmet. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Update – Injury RTC

A female motorcyclist, who sustained serious head and chest injuries in a road traffic collision involving a truck on Middle Road in Devonshire near the junction with Parsons Lane at 8:25pm on Tuesday, has been flown overseas for further medical treatment. The 30 year old Paget woman was in the Intensive Care Unit at KEMH in critical condition before being airlifted to Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts USA on Wednesday. Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Linnell Williams on 295-0011.

Burglary

Around 4:30pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Fruitland Lane, Pembroke residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 8:15am and 3:50pm that day, an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit(s) stole a black Nolan helmet, an X-Box video game system, a PlayStation 2 video game system and a Sony Ericsson cellular phone. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
