The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, May 17th – Monday, May 24th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 17
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 42
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 4
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 10
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 1, Pembroke = 7, Warwick = 1 and Southampton 1.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles with 1 car also reported stolen during the period. Of the 10 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered, including the car.

Weekend Activity

Over the Bermuda Day holiday weekend (7am Friday, May 21st – 7am Tuesday, May 25th) there were 3 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 2 reported burglaries. There were also 7 reported damage only road traffic collisions, 2 reported road traffic collisions resulting in injury and 8 vehicles reported taken without their owners’ consent. In addition there were 15 reported loud music complaints. There were several Police operations and a few high profile incidents over the Bermuda Day holiday weekend, resulting in a total of 72 arrests and 126 stop & searches conducted. The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their continued support.

Injury RTC

Around 6:45am today, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury near the junction of Middle Road and Church Road in Southampton involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. It appears that the motorcycle was traveling east on Middle Road and the pedestrian, a 27 year old Southampton woman, attempted to cross the marked pedestrian crossing in the area when the collision occurred. The pedestrian sustained injuries to her left leg. The motorcycle rider, a 22 year old Sandys parish man, was not injured and the motorcycle was not damaged. Inquiries are underway.

Injury RTC/Impaired Driving

Around 12:20am on Monday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on St. David’s Road in St. George’s. It appears that a car was traveling east on St. David’s Road when the driver, a 31 year old Pembroke man, lost control. As a result the vehicle collided with a tree and overturned. The Pembroke man sustained minor abrasions to his fingers and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. The car received front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
