The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, April 26th – Monday, May 3rd 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 17
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 46
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 6
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 10
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 4, Warwick = 2, Southampton = 1 and Sandys parish = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 10 vehicles reported stolen, 1 was subsequently recovered.

Injury RTC

At 7:20am on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of South Road and Paynters Road in St. George’s involving a bus and a motorcycle. It appears that the vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on South Road when they collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 25 year old Paget man, sustained minor injuries. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance, treated and later released. The bus driver, a 58 year old Paget man, was not injured. It is unclear if any passengers were on the bus at the time. The bus and the motorcycle received front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact PC Milisa Williams on 295-0011.

At 4:10pm on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Somerset Road and Church Hill Lane in Sandys parish involving two rental cycles. It appears that both rental cycles were traveling west on Somerset Road one behind the other when both riders lost control and collided with the curb. The riders of the rental cycles, a 73 year old Virginia man and a 68 year old Virginia woman, sustained lacerations to the head, face & arms. Inquiries are underway.

Burglary

Around 7:30pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Constance Crescent, Warwick residence. It appears that sometime between 12 noon and 4pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
