The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, February 22nd – Monday, March 1st 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 14
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 40
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 10
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 13
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 6, Warwick = 1, Southampton = 1 and Sandys parish = 1.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 2 cars and 1 motocross cycle also reported stolen during the period. Of the 13 vehicles reported stolen, 5 were subsequently recovered.

Burglary

Around 6:45am today, Police received a report of a burglary at Designer Balloons in Paget. It appears that sometime overnight an unknown culprit gained entry into the premises. The culprit stole a cash register. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 10:50pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Rambling Lane, Pembroke residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 9:45pm and 10:50pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home. The culprit stole a Dell laptop computer, a quantity of cash and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 10:40am on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at Evening Light Pentecostal Church in Pembroke. It appears that sometime overnight an unknown culprit gained entry into the premises. The culprit stole a quantity of coins, including donations for Haiti. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
