Sudden Death

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Alshante Brangman of Devonshire. A few minutes after 8 this morning (Tuesday) first responders attended a residence in Devonshire with a 23 year old woman needing medical attention. The 23 year old Devonshire woman was taken to KEMH via ambulance where she was pronounced dead at 8:29am Tuesday by an on call physician. An investigation has commenced and is being coordinated by officers from the Serious Crime Unit. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family & friends of Ms. Brangman.

There was also a fracas that took place this morning (Tuesday) at the waiting room of the hospital’s Emergency Department. The minor altercation was quickly brought under control and inquiries are underway. It is believed both incidents are linked.

The Bermuda Police Service is conducting a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances of Ms. Brangman’s death. A 28 year old Sandys parish man is currently in custody assisting Police with their inquiries. Whilst there is a person in custody, the investigation and any subsequent conclusion(s) as to the cause(s) of her death will be predicated on the evidence in the matter.

An autopsy is due to be conducted and we will be guided by the conclusion(s) of the forensic pathologist.

In addition, Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault between a man and a woman in the Emergency Department of KEMH around 1:50pm on Sunday, February 28th 2010. The Serious Crime Unit would like to speak with any member of the public that may have witnessed this incident.
