The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, January 4th – Monday, January 11th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 15
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 22
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 9
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 16
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 3, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 9, Warwick = 2 and Southampton = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 16 vehicles reported stolen, 4 were subsequently recovered.

Update - Injury RTC

The drivers of the vehicles involved in the four vehicle road traffic collision in the area of Barnes Corner, Southampton – a 43 year old Southampton man (trash truck driver), a 27 year old Southampton man (black SUV driver), a 68 year old Warwick woman (red car driver) and a 65 year old Southampton woman (grey car driver) – were all taken to KEMH for evaluation and treatment; however, despite the vehicles being extensively damaged, no one was seriously injured. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. The area of Middle Road in Southampton between Church Road and South Road remains closed to all traffic while Works & Engineering personnel clean the road surface. Motorists are advised to heed the traffic diversions in place. The public will be advised when the road is re-opened.
