Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Dereiko Simons of Sandys parish. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Simons, who was involved in a collision that occurred around 11:40pm Saturday on Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Morgan Hill. It appears that Mr. Simons was riding a motorcycle traveling west on Somerset Road when he collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction  Mr. Simons sustained multiple injuries including serious internal injuries, a head injury and two broken legs. He was rushed to KEMH via ambulance where he was subsequently pronounced dead by an on call physician at 2:33am Sunday. The driver of the car, a 42 year old Sandys parish man, was not injured. His passengers, a 43 year old Sandys parish man and a 70 year old Sandys parish man, were also uninjured. The motorcycle was extensively damaged while the car received moderate front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Olasunkanmi Akinmola on 295-0011.

The death of Dereiko Simons marks the 2nd road fatality for 2010.

Shooting in Pembroke

Around 7:15pm on Sunday, Police received a report of a shooting on Pembroke Park Lane in Pembroke, near the junction with St. John’s Road. Officers attended the scene a few minutes later. It appears that a 21 year old Pembroke man was traveling through the area on a motorcycle when he was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant. The Pembroke man was taken to KEMH by a member of the public for treatment of his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening at this time. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service subsequently attended the scene to provide lighting in the area. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Weekend Activity

Over the weekend there were 4 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 3 reported burglaries. There were also 5 reported damage only road traffic collisions, 6 reported road traffic collisions resulting in injury and 5 vehicles reported taken without their owners’ consent.
