The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, November 2nd – Monday, November 9th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 20
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 32
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 4
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 25
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 2, Devonshire = 4, Pembroke = 12, Paget = 2, Warwick = 2, Southampton = 1 and Sandys parish = 1.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car also reported stolen during the period. Of the 25 vehicles reported stolen, 4 were subsequently recovered, including the car.

Witness Appeal - Middletown Shooting

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the shooting that took place around 6pm Friday, November 6th in the area of King Street and Middletown Lane in Pembroke or anyone with any information to contact Acting Detective Chief Inspector Calvin Smith at the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011. We are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have been in the Dundonald Street/Union Street/Parsons Road/King Street/Middletown Lane area between 4pm and 6pm Friday and saw anyone acting suspiciously.

In addition, anyone with any information can call the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477 or submit an anonymous tip via the Crime Stoppers Bermuda website www.crimestoppers.bm.

Burglary

Around 8:20am on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a West Side Road, Sandys parish residence. The complainant stated that sometime between Tuesday, November 3rd and Sunday, November 8th an unknown culprit gained entry into his home while he was overseas. The culprit made an untidy search of the premises; however, it does not appear that anything was taken. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
