Attempted Handbag Snatch - Around 11:20pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of an attempted handbag snatch on Serpentine Road in Pembroke near its junction with Pitts Bay Road. The victim, a 28 year old Pembroke woman, stated that she was walking along Serpentine Road when she passed an unknown man sitting on a motorcycle outside Trelawney Lane. The unknown man then approached her from behind, grabbed her black handbag, walked back to the motorcycle and attempted to make good his escape. However, the Pembroke woman took her handbag back and a struggle ensued. The offender eventually let go of the handbag when she started screaming and made good his escape. The 28 year old woman was not injured. The suspect was described as a dark skinned male, approximately 5’6” tall with fuzzy white hair wearing a black or grey trench coat. He is believed to be around 55 years old and was riding a green Honda Lead motorcycle at the time. Any witnesses or anyone with any information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Injury RTC

Around 5:10pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with Jennings Road involving a Police vehicle and an auxiliary cycle. It appears that a marked Police car was traveling east on North Shore Road with its emergency equipment activated (lights & siren) with the auxiliary cycle traveling in the same direction ahead of the Police car when the vehicles collided. The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 17 year old Smith’s parish woman, sustained abrasions to her face, arms & legs. The Police officer was not injured. The auxiliary cycle received rear end damage while the Police car received front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Handbag Snatch

Around 3:40pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a handbag snatch on Somerset Road in Sandys parish, near the junction with Scott’s Hill Road. It appears that the victim, a 35 year old American woman visiting the island, was riding her rental cycle east on Somerset Road when two unknown men on a yellow motorcycle rode up alongside her. The pillion passenger on the yellow motorcycle then grabbed the visitor’s brown handbag out of the rental cycle’s basket. She pursued the men who after a short while stopped their motorcycle, got off and attempted to make good their escape by running through a nearby yard. At that time she managed to get a hold of her handbag, but was briefly dragged along the ground before letting go. The offenders then dropped her handbag and made good their escape with a gold coloured pouch which was in the handbag. The pouch contained a quantity of cash. The 35 year old American woman sustained abrasions to her body in the struggle; however, she declined medical attention. The motorcycle used by the suspects was impounded by Police and an 18 year old Sandys parish man was subsequently arrested in connection with this incident. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
