Tue, 2009-10-20

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, October 12th – Monday, October 19th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 20
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 36
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 12
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 3, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 5, Warwick = 1 and Sandys parish = 1.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car also reported stolen during the period. Of the 12 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered, including the car.

Sudden Death

Around 7:40am today, Police received a report of a sudden death at the St. George’s Boatyard. The victim, a 42 year old St. George’s man, was found in an unresponsive state and was subsequently pronounced dead by an on call physician at 9:25am. The deceased was apparently an employee of the boatyard and also lived at the premises. There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. Inquiries into this incident are underway. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified.
