Vehicle Fire - Around 6:20am today (Friday), Police attended a reported vehicle fire on Boundary Crescent in Devonshire. Details are unclear; however, the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene and extinguished the blaze. The extent of the damage to the car is unknown at this time; however, there were no reported injuries. The vehicle was impounded by Police and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the main Police number, 295-0011.

Advisory – Burglaries in St. George’s

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of several burglaries which have taken place in St. George’s recently at commercial premises – a number of them discovered by officers on routine patrol. Police are also aware of recent residential burglaries/attempted residential burglaries in St. George’s and will continue to remain vigilant, maintaining patrols through the town of St. George and its surrounding areas. Inquiries into these reported incidents are ongoing.

Officers investigating the reported burglaries at commercial premises are using available CCTV images to assist in identifying the culprit or culprits responsible. In addition, Police are meeting with area community partners to discuss how they can better address these and any other concerns they may have. Police are continuing to encourage anyone with any information about these incidents to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.

Police Week 2009 – Former/Ex Police Officers Memorial & Social

As part of Police Week 2009 a ceremony will be held today to honour those Police officers who have gone on before and paved the way for the Bermuda Police Service of today. In recognition of their dedication to the community over the years, all are invited to attend the Ex/Former Police Officers Memorial & Social; in particular ex/former Police officers and the families of ex/former Police officers.

The memorial will start at 4pm. All attending are asked to meet at the cemetery behind Alexandra Road in Devonshire by 3:45pm or at Police Headquarters in Prospect by 3:30pm. A get-together of ex/former Police officers and serving Police officers will take place at the Prospect Police Recreation Club immediately following the memorial.
