Robbery

Around 4:15pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a robbery at the Fairmont Southampton Princess golf course. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 37 year old man, who is a visitor to the island. He stated that around 3:45pm he was playing golf with two friends at the 15th green when three unknown men appeared from the bushes. One of the men ran up to the 37 year old brandishing a knife and demanded money. The victim handed the suspect with the knife his wallet containing U.S. $52 in cash, €100 (Euros) in cash and personal items. The suspect then looked through a golf bag before making good his escape on foot into the bushes with the other men. The visitor and his friends were not injured. Police subsequently searched the area; however, the suspects were not located. The main suspect is described as a dark skinned man approximately 5'10" tall of slim build; he was clean shaven and wore a blue hooded top with dark blue sweat pants. The second suspect is described as a black man, approximately 5'10" tall, chubby, wearing a dark coloured cap and a light blue top; while the third suspect is described as a tall black man of slim build. All three men appeared to be in their late teens. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information about this incident to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Around 5:55pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a robbery on Lighthouse Road in Southampton. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 20 year old man, who is a visitor to the island. He stated that at 3:30pm he was walking on Lighthouse Road near the junction with Beaming Hill when he was approached by three unknown men. He attempted to walk around them but they blocked his path. One of the men then brandished a knife and demanded money. The victim handed the suspect with the knife approximately $40 in cash. The suspects then made good their escape, walking towards Henry VIII restaurant. The visitor was not injured. The main suspect, who is believed to be in his 20s, is described as a brown skinned male with a round face, approximately 5'10" tall of slim build, clean shaven with a low haircut. He was wearing baggy clothing; a green hooded jacket, light coloured blue jeans and white sneakers with green on the sides. The second suspect, is described as a black man of slim build, approximately 5'11" tall wearing a blue & white bandana and a dark coloured hooded jacket; while the third suspect is described as a black man, approximately 5'10" tall wearing a blue nylon hooded jacket. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information about this incident to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Media Note

On Monday, January 15, 2007 at 3pm the Bermuda Police Service will hold an official opening ceremony for the new Southside Police Station, located at the old #2 gate of the former U.S. Naval Air Station in St. George's.
