Update - Shooting at Hinson Lane, Smith’s

Mon, 2009-09-07

As previously reported, about 1:35am Sunday, Police officers responded to a report of a man having been shot and injured at a residence on Hinson Lane, in Smith’s parish.

Police responded immediately and on arrival discovered a 62 year old male was injured from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his body. He was conveyed to hospital by ambulance where he remains in critical condition.

Police officers from the Bermuda Police Service Serious Crime Unit under the direction of Acting Chief Inspector Michael Redfern commenced immediate investigations into this matter; to date officers have recorded several witness statements and are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry.

On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those persons who have thus far come forward and assisted by providing critical and relevant information.

A U.S. crime scene expert is currently in Bermuda and has conducted an examination of the residence for potential forensic evidence.

Initial Police investigations indicate that this was not a random act and it is a possibility that this residence was a selected target.

Detectives are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the Middle Road, Devonshire area late Saturday early Sunday morning and saw anything suspicious.

Anyone who has any information, whether they believe it to be significant or not, are asked to contact detectives at the Serious Crime Unit at telephone number 299-8106 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.
